talked with Holley.
because it shuts off so quickly, they think it is an electrical issue.
I tend to agree.
maybe when I release the starter button, that shuts down the engine.

MSD thinks that my powering the MSD box off the 12v terminal on the starter
relay could be causing problem. though this has worked for me for 10 years, will
try a new starter relay, and powering MSD box off battery.

moved 6AL power source to battery.
still starts right up then quits when I let go the starter button.
gonna move the 6AL ground to battery as well.
right now the ground is on the engine block, with 3 other ground wires,
in the same bolt hole.

if this don't work, will replace starter relay.

Try a basic "hot wire" technique on the ignition system and see how it runs.

my start button is actually shorting the positive to the ignition
terminal on the starter relay.

I believe what he is saying is to turn the power on, then short the rely to engage the starter. To this point, I actually had the reverse of what you are seeing, I could start my car using the "hotwire" technique using a remote starter button, but it would not start at all with the key/switch. I discovered that my ECU and 6AL (white/red wire I think) needed to be connected to connected to something that had power in the start and run positions. That took me on a wild ride of rewiring, fixing, etc.

Then I'm going to suggest that when you release the start button, you are removing 12vdc from the 6AL. The small red wire no longer has 12vdc on it. You are powering the unit from the battery (large gauge red and black wires), but the small red wire always needs 12vdc when you want it to run. Check your wiring.

both the large and small red wire are coming right off the battery.
A large wire from the battery goes towards the 6AL box, and splits to the
small wire and large wire. the small wire has a switch on it.
when I turn on the ignition key, and close the small wire switch, the
6AL box red light comes on for 2 secs, then flashes 5 times, as it always has.
Then if I go to start, with either my start button or ignition key, the engine starts, then
quits.  Thinking 6AL box bad, even though its been to MSD twice.
But I still need to run 6AL ground wire to battery.

I need to look at the starting circuit wiring diagram.

Could the button itself be the problem?, short cut the button and start her up and see.

yes, that is what its looking like.
yes, have short cut the button, same result.
But dang box has been to MSD twice!!
gonna ground box to battery neg, to see if that helps

Remove the switches from the cct to test. Connect the small red wire to the battery. Try to start. If it doesn't I'd say you need a new ign box. (You have already verified fuel i guess)
Did you post a pic of your schematic in one of the previous pages?

The small red wire on a switch fed directly from the battery positive bypasses your key switch (hot wire). So if the engine starter is engaged (cranking), you have spark and the engine runs, but no spark output otherwise? Check your MSD6AL ground connection. The heavy Black wire needs to be connected directly to the negative battery terminal.

I need to look at the starting circuit wiring diagram.
