No. Your issue is 1 of 2 things, vacuum leak, or throttle blades open too far. Too much air is getting into the motor. completely close both front and rear throttle blades. car should not idle at all, unless you have a vacuum leak, or holes drilled in your throttle blades.

:iagree: I think you have a vacuum leak Bob. Clogged idle air bleeds will make for a rich idle condition, not one of your symptoms. You appear to be lean at idle IMO. Plug all the vacuum lines to PCV, power brake booster etc to test off-engine components. IF there is no change, the intake manifold may have a leak. A smoke machine can be used to test. It is simple to make one, check youtube. I hope it's an easy fix.

Consider this smoke machine, it really works! It's easy to make or you can buy one from the address listed (kustomsmoke@yahoo.com):

Here is another example of using a smoke machine to find vacuum leaks etc. On a carbureted engine, i take off the carb and make a blockoff plate using the base gasket as a template (duct tape works too). Connect the smoke discharge hose to a vacuum fitting and look for leaks. You can loosen the rocker shafts to keep all the valves closed for pinpointing say intake ports leaking into the crankcase (OEM steel valley tray/ intake gasket), intake valve leakage, worn valve guides. The uses are endless. A word of caution:: If you use a smoke machine to diagnose an EVAP/fuel leak, use an inert gas like Argon or CO2 instead of compressed air, and test OUTSIDE to be safe.  :2thumbs:

That's smart and the dye leaves evidence to find it later. Haven't seen this before thanks!

he has some good advice, if you can get past the sometimes irritating showmanship.

I hope this info helps to pinpoint any leak issues, the UV trace dye is an added bonus too!
