ok, the float level in the primary bowl was about 3/8 inch too low. I checked the level once I reassembled the carb,
and ran the engine for a couple minutes. Level is now at bottom of site glass. I set the level by turning bowl upside down,
and adjusting till top of float covered about 1/2 of the two visible brass screw heads. Or, when the bottom of float
is about 1 inch from top of bowl (when looking at bowl turned upside down)
All eight accelerator diaphragm screws were a tad loose. Of the six large
throttle plate brass hold down phillips head screws under the carb, 5 were
a tad loose (but still tight), and one at the back of the secondary bowl area was very loose,
(could move with hand).
Started car up. Runs better, but still rough, like a plug is fouled or something,
and I still don't think it will idle.
Adventure continues tomorrow. Trying to exhaust all possibilities before buying new
metering blocks.
