no, not meant for that.

just talked with MSD.  They now agree timing unit may be causing this issue, and informed me
there is a different testing method I should be using. Agghh! wish I had known that a few months ago, as
I had mentioned I have their adjustable timing unit. Back to the cold garage!!

Ok got it. Can you disconnect the timing control and troubleshoot the ignition system without it?

ya, disconnected it yesterday, and have the system set up without it.
So will test soon, without timing unit, and see what happens.
Turns out, to verify 6AL box when the timing unit is hooked up,
you test by grounding the white wire, for a spark, instead of the purple
and green wires. didn't know that until today.

so far the box is ok, but it did have a bad ground wire, we discovered.
Also a new MSD blaster coin was bad.
But right now, we suspect the MSD variable timing unit is bad.
Have taken the timing unit out of the circuitry, and getting ready to retest the system
so see if getting a spark now.

If you pull the timing device and start her up - what happens?

getting ready to do that, or at least run the MSD test again. Life is interfering at the moment.

OK, with the timing control unit out of the picture, the system is passing
the MSD test, and I am getting a spark every time I short the purple and green
wires coming from the MSD 6AL box.  Not gonna start celebrating, though, until
I start the car up, which may be a day or two, depending on the weather.

That's good news! At least the 6AL is working. I guess the next step is to connect the distributor pick up to the 6AL and see if cranking will trigger it and produce a spark from the coil. Good Luck!

Thanks, yep, that will be the next step. The distributor wires were going to the variable timing unit. Gotta wire in some new connectors, as the MSD connector broke, but no biggee. Then we'll also see if the carb rebuild and new intake manifold were done right!

OK, engine fires up, but goes up to 1500 rpm then stalls immediately.
just as it was doing in the past.
I'm assuming vacuum leak or some other adjustment on carb.
