today, I kept it running for about 30 secs, by pumping accellerator, and keeping rpm above 1000rpm.
I think it would have kept running if I kept the rpm up about 2000 to 2500.
Kinda like there is no idle circuit.
Check primary bowl just now, and gas comes out when shake car.

Maybe the two metering blocks I put in there were not correct, even
though Holley told me they were. Primary metering block has a vacuum
tube sticking out the side, and that is plugged. A lower vacuum tube
below the primary bowl is hooked to a vacuum gauge. Back of carb has tube that
goes to PCV valve.

you got a ZX1100? crazy!

had a 74 H2750, a 73 Z1, and a 2002 ZX7R

 :iagree: I believe you have no idle circuit as well. Hard to grasp since there is 4 corner idle circuits on your carb. Try backing out each metering screw 1/2 turn for the heck of it and see what happens, nothing to lose at this point. If no response, try a different carb if you can.

 Yep, I have a ZX1100, absolutely ridiculous horsepower! I respect that machine!  I had a H2 way back when, also bad ass! Love those two strokes! Also built a few KZ1100's punched out to 1460ccs, ported and cammed with 100 hp nitrous shot on top (w/ a progressive controller to keep the tire from melting). I would not ride them for anything in this world... I have a family... :angelwings:

That's way too lean for an engine such as yours to idle properly.

Ether it is not getting fuel on the idle circuit, or it has a major air leak.

Given that you changed the metering blocks, I would guess lack of fuel.  Make sure the blocks are identical to the ones you replaced and that all the passages are open to air being blown thru them.  Also check that the gaskets are uncovering the various holes-particularly the idle fuel passages.  I have seen gasket problems in the past.

Ya, when I replaced them, I checked those things carefully, but I guess will tear apart carb again. I also can
return the secondary butterflies so that there is no transfer slot showing, as was the case before I replaced metering
blocks. I do have the small holes in each butterfly. Hope I kept the old metering blocks. Holley said my problem was not
carb, but I did not mention to him that I replaced metering blocks.

ya, as with the Cuda, I smash the throttle, and start thinking 5 secs later. That's why I sold the 750 ZX7R.  Did not
want to be an organ doner! But I sure miss them! At 64, reflexes are not what they use to be!

:iagree: 57 here! I'll stick with the Challenger and see what happens!

Do you have another carb to try? It doesn't have to be the same exact cfm, you are just checking the idle circuit function. A vacuum leak can cause the same issues.

ok, calling it a night, but carb apart on primary side. both the new
and old metering blocks have same serial number, and appear exactly
the same, with the gasket covering up or revealing the same holes.

Wait, on back side of metering block, where you see most of the power valve, there is a tiny bleed hole on each side of the power valve.  The stinking gasket is covering those up!!  Agghhhhhh!!

I'll call Holley tomorrow.

As was said before, grab a known good carb and stick it on there and see if she will idle.

MSD says don't run all MSD wires from box (in passenger compartment)
through same hole in firewall. so, will reroute those. even though has worked
for 15 years. Said something is messing with MSD box signal.

just noticed the distributor wires pass over a spark plug wire.
may be the issue.
need to reassemble carb and start it up.

(actually the distributor wires have been bundled with other wires for 15 years,
but maybe something shifted).

Thanks, good points. But I cut off the choke tower when I got the carb.

All 8 air bleeds on carb are clear.

Notice on web that I got several hits when searching MSD and idle problems.
Looked like keeping dist wires away from other wires was answer.
will put carb back on, separate wires, and try to fire up.

reassembled carb, separated wires in engine bay.
fired it up, stalls below 1000 rpm.

AFR at stall was 16

now MSD wants the coil wires and dist wires passing through
firewall, to come through separate holes.
and they want me to put 6AL back in engine compartment.
will do sep holes first.
this is getting sickening.

Noticed the stalling below 1000 rpm started happening after
new metering blocks put in carb.
Don't have another carb to try.
May send whole carb to Holley.

ok, Andy, 734406pk has steered me to the probable solution.
I have on the carb a main body to throttle body gasket from Summit,
part 108-5. I should have used part 108-7, which is a slightly larger bore
and which does not cover up some idle circuits.  When I bought the gasket, it said
for 4150s, and was the only one I saw at the time, and it seemed to fit up real nice,
but, I missed some of the small details. A painful 3 month leasson!
will order new gasket and see what happens.
