Alternator pully
« on: August 20, 2016 - 02:41:05 PM »
When I bough my 70 Cuda the engine was out and the car, a long block,  and all the accessorizes removed.  It came with two alternators and by the looks of them neither was in the car when the engine was removed.  Both of these are "exchange" rebuilt alternators with a double fan belt pulley.  My car does not have power steering or AC so I only need a single belt pulley.  In looking at the alternators it looks like the pulleys are a press fit but I may be wrong.  First question, how do I get the double pulley off and second where do I buy a single fan belt pulley?  I haven't been able to find any vendors that sell the alternator pulleys.  Crank, water pump, and power steering pulleys, but no alternator pulleys.

Thanks 73440, but I was looking for a stock type pulley if possible.

You can buy an inexpensive puller at a parts store. If you have a salvage yard near by, check to see if they have a pile of alternators out back. I picked up a core for $5 that had a single pulley on it.

Burdar, I'v'e got several pullers.  Is it just a press fit?

to press the pulley on I would recommend you take the alternator apart so that you don't push against the rear bearing.
