Fuel line question

Sorry for the extremely crude and elementary drawing but best way to get my question across:

Where do we go from here as far as booking things up correctly?

Main 3/8 line goes to the inlet of the fuel pump.
5/16 vent line goes to the valve cover breather
1/4 return line goes to the fuel vapour separator

In a 70-71 440 there is no "in-line" fuel filter.

Ok thanks - we have a 1971 Barracuda but the motor is a 1975. So should we have an in line fuel filter? The only reason we thought we needed one is because the papers that came with our Holley carb said they recommend an inline filter.

What is and where does the fuel vapor separator go?

Does anything hook up or plug to outlet of fuel pump or does it stay open?

What hooks up the to carb's fuel rail? Where does it get fuel from?

I'm so sorry for my stupidity but we've never done a full resto like this before and nothing was done when we got the car. We have done everything from scratch!

This is a fuel vapor separator, it goes between the fuel pump and the carb.

If you have 3 lines from the tank area to the engine compartment start with the 3/8 line and run it from the tank sending unit using a short 3/8 hose to connect the line to the sending unit. You should have a short metal strap that goes across the rubber tube to complete the ground loop for the fuel gauge. Run the 3/8 line to the input of the fuel pump. Next run the 5/16 vapor line from the vapor separator above the tank to the valve cover breather on the pass side. Note your drawing shows a pcv on that side. That is actually the breather/ vapor recovery air cleaner or commonly called the breather. Your pcv should be on the drivers side. Next run a 3/8 line from the outlet of the fuel pump to the fuel vapor separator and out of the separator to  your carb inlets. The fuel vapor separator has a screen in it and also functions as a filter. Next run the 1/4 line from the outlet of the separator back to the sending unit at the tank.

Really ?

The main fuel line from the tank hooks to the pump inlet.....where do you think the carb gets it's fuel from ? You need to hook a line from the outlet of the pump to the carb....I can't believe I'm answering this :roflsmiley:

If you are using the separator, then that goes between the pump outlet and the carb.

Yes really, I'm trying to help my husband here build his dream car and we don't have a ton of money to have professionals do it for us. I'm sorry I ask stupid questions but I want to help him as much as I can instead of standing around being useless while he does all the work. We've built this car all by ourselves from the ground up and I'm proud of what we've accomplished. Yes I may ask a lot of questions, and questions that may sound dumb to you but I'm just trying here. Trying to be helpful...

The return line goes to the bottom of the vapor separator if it is an oem style. I use after market separators and the 1/4 return line goes on top.
