cuda door glass questions.
« on: August 23, 2016 - 08:26:00 PM »
So here's where I'm at with the glass.  Frustrated.   For some reason it's too far inward,Especially towards the front.  I put the guides on exactly like they were on the old glass.  And the tracks are tight on top.  The bottom adjustments don't do nearly enough to get it close.  Not sure where to start.    Can't go too much up or down and it hits.   Do the spacers look wrong?     Thinking on having my buddy with a 70 cuda drive over and have an operating unit right in front of me.   Figure it out.      :dunno:

My first thought is that the front track is in upside down :2cents:

Thanx       I never removed the track from the base.  And the allen bolt goes to the bottom?     The "L" stamp is up.  Pretty sure that'a how it goes.  Hm, I'll hafta take it all out to see.   hm

not 100% sure of this ....

there are two 1/2 bolts under the door (above the sill plate when shut).
the holes are slotted and control the glass camber (tilt in/out adjustment)

I would loosen those up and push the glass (towards outside of car).

the glass, from the pictures, is tilted way to much in the direction of the inside of the car.

The bolt adjusters for the glass on bottom of the door work opposite of the direction you want to go... the track holds the middle of the door glass... if you want upper part out when rolling up, move adjusters toward center of vehicle... if you want glass tilted in more toward seat, move adjusters outward...

There is an adjustment procedure in chapter 6 of the factory 'Body Service Manual' that I have for my 73... Hope it will help you... might be able to scan pages if needed...

Set parallelism and primary seal
1. Raise window completely
2. Loosen screw at belt on upper end of front track
3. Align and set front edge of glass to "A" pillar and top edge of roof rail weatherstrip creating parallelism with weatherstrip bead
4. Secure upper screw on front track previously loosened

In-Out and Secondary Seal
1. Loosen bottom screws on front track lower support (2 screws on bottom for front track)
2. Loosen bottom screw on rear track lower support - push front track lower support: outward for inboard contact at weatherstrip. Allow rear track to create it's own plane, parallel to front track (make sure rear track is loose and free to float when moving front support)
3. Secure front track lower support screws
4. Secure rear track lower support screw
If additional alignment to A pillar or roof rail is needed, adjust regulator idler arm pivot bracket up or down as required and secure.

Thanks.     I've played with the adjustments on the bottom of the door.  That's not what I'm talking about though.  The white spacers seem to be too thick.  Glass is too far towards the inside.  I cannot get it to move out.  Once the vertical tracks are mounted in the top of the door skin that's it.  No adjustment there.    Just getting the piece of glass out will be excruciating.      Did barely get the glass to go down all the way.   It's not right.   Close, Butt no.  :faint:   R/T

On my door glass, the white post spacers (the up stop posts) go to the inside. The posts contact the up stop brackets located on inner edge of door belt sheet metal. The factory manual drawing doesn't show it very clearly.

Yours look to be mounted from the outside...

Mine are adjusted all the way out (towards outside) and I still cannot get the window to go into the upper weatherstrip.

Any other ideas besides breaking out a drill and elongating the holes?

Drill,File the slots longer in the direction you need.   Will it get you far enough?   I've heard of people doing that.  Wish I could here.  I'll have to pull it all and get in there.   Uhg.    :working:

Check on the bottom of the door, I THINK there is A slot the guide has on the tracks. loosen the two bolts and see what that will get you. :2cents:

The bracket at the bottom is NOT going to get the glass closer to the door at the belt line....I think the bracket that the top of the front track is bolted to is bent inwards :2cents:

 :iagree:

My front track is a lot closer to outer door skin than what yours is showing in pictures. I'll see if I can get a decent pic of mine without pulling door panel off... it sits back from window outer top lip by about 1/2 inch (closer to mirror)...
