1970 seats...wire between seat tracks
« on: August 24, 2016 - 09:07:24 AM »
My Dart seat tracks have locking mechanisms on both the inner and outer sides...just like 1970 E-bodies.  I'm missing the wire that connects the two sides together.  Does anyone have a picture of the bottom of their seats that shows the wire hooked up?  There are hooks that attach to the front of the seat frame that I assume the wire goes through before going to the other side.

Does the wire go through the hook or is there another piece that attaches to the hook and the wire goes through that?  The inner tracks are the same for both sides.  That puts the lever close to the "hook" on one seat but at the far end on the other seat.  That means each seat will take a different length of wire OR there is another part that I'm missing.  Since my Dart is a convertible and the tracks were in bad shape, I assume those pieces rusted away.

WOW thanks!  So only the passengers side uses that extra strap that connects to the "hook"?  I was thinking about just using some picture wire and aluminum sleeves to connect the two sides together.  Would that work?

You gotta love how these cars were designed and assembled back in the 70's. Crazy simple design that has lasted 46 years and (mine) looks like it will last another 46.  Your design sounds like it could work. I'd make sure the wire you choose doesn't stretch over time.

I think PG Classics sells a wire kit but I'm not going to pay an inflated price AND shipping for something like this.  I bet the braided wire would stretch some.  I'll just find some thicker wire to use.  I assume the extra strap is there so the inner track mechanism gets pulled at the proper angle?

You need to save those pictures in the "reference picture" thread.  Thanks for posting them.
