Cam Fit
« on: August 24, 2016 - 06:11:10 PM »
I spun a cam bearing in a 390 years ago from a tight fit and now I'm paranoid.

How good is good enough? I lubed it spun it with a drill for a while.  if you can turn it with 2 fingers I assume that will be good enough?  it still has some resistance.

Two fingers should be fine.....

Tight cam bearings on Mopar big blocks are common, the normal fix is to use the old cam to create a clearance reaming tool..... Take the old core & using a die grinder with a cut off wheel slice across all five bearing journals at a 90 degree angle..... Deburr but leave the sharp cutting edge... Insert the cam in the block & a couple turns should remove any tight areas...

Har! You SURE you're not from Bruce County?! I could hear my old man talking when I read that.  :grinyes: And just like back then- it made damn good sense once you think about it.
