Hi Guys,
My car has decided to start leaking power steering fluid from the actual box and this seems to be quite common. It seems the culprit is either the steering column input seal or the seal at the base where the pitman arm is. I replaced this entire part a couple years ago from a unit I bought from year one but it turns out they just source A1 Cardone parts and they are known for being poorly re-manufactured.
I guess the questions are:
1. Can I replace those seals with the box in the car?
2. Is this a DIY job? I hear that when removing these parts you can affect how the car drives but most people seem to say it is a DIY job. Anyone have a how-to?
3. If I need to replace the box other than firm feel who else makes these? Firm feel is always in the back of my head and if I need to replace the whole box I might go that route but I don't want to shell out well over 500 Canadian for one if I can fix the issue with 2x 5 dollar gaskets. The car drives fine just refuses to keep fluid in it.
