71 340 cuda throttle/kickdown bracket
« on: August 29, 2016 - 09:39:45 AM »
could someone post a pic of an 4 barrel 340 (shaker) throttle/kickdown linkage setup,
my bracket does not clear the intake manifold. did these ever get spaced up, to clear intake runners?
everything is stock, I think my bracket may be wrong??

If you are not dead set on stock, Lokar is a nice alternative.  Easy to set up the kickdown.

This is the typical small block 4-barrel throttle bracket.  I don't know if the shaker cars used a different bracket.

The bracket I linked to is different then the one Alan posted.  Bill Rolik shows the same bracket for 68-71 small blocks.  :dunno: :clueless:

Alan, those are great pictures...but, that doesn't look anything like mine, so I was told/sold the wrong one then...
so would this one be the correct one?

top pic:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/112098509791?item=112098509791&viewitem=&vxp=mtr

only difference I can see from the one Alan pictured is the angle of the clamp part is vertical not horizontal, would this matter? if so I could easily cut off and weld it at a different angle also the top arm arch is not a smooth curve, and it seems to have a slight notch cut out of it, and not an identical rod to rod arm angle...would this be useable as is, again I could alter this too.

do the rods , etc. look correct too?

bottom pic:
or would this one be better as it looks closer in many ways, but seller claims its not the correct for a E body 340 /727.

The 4-barrel carb is a lot wider then the 2-barrel.  That's why the throttle cable mount is vertical.  If it's horizontal, it pushes the mounting point towards the center of the engine.  That's why I questioned the one Alan posted.  My 2-barrel bracket looked like Alan's.  I cut/welded it to work on my setup.

I know A-bodies use the multi-piece linkage.  I thought E-bodes used a one piece rod from the top crank to the trans lever?

What do you have for linkages?  You might be able to just buy the correct throttle bracket.  The linkage you have might work since the pivot pin is probably in the same spot.

I think you might be on to something....even in my pictures it looks like the cable wouldn't line up :clueless: I don't remember replacing it after the engine was painted...but I may have had to bend it....that was too many E Bodies ago for me to remember :banghead:

Disreqard that. Now that I think about it, a one piece linkage won't work with the throttle bracket that has the pivot pin.  A one piece linkage works with the other style bracket that doesn't have the large pin.  They must have changed bracket styles in 72.

Top pic looks to be 77 and up Volarie/Aspen including Diplomat and others. Bottom pic is 318 2-barrel/904 for years/models described
