Clutch issues

Help please.  I have a 67 cuda fastback original 4 speed with its 273 commando.  Been looking for a clutch and everyone sells 9 1/4 inch clutch kits for this darn thing.  Problem is that isn't enough!!  It slips 1st through 4th at high rpms and I've tried several different ones.  It has the original 122 tooth flywheel and which if you measure bolt hole to bolt hole you only have room to fit the 9 1/4 inch clutch. Brewers has a 10" scalloped pressure plate and bolts to squeeze it in but they said its not a heavy duty one which makes me iffy on wasting my time on it. Yeah: My nephew had a 65 Barracuda with a 360 and the small clutch, it stuck just fine. In a perfect world in a 67 and up I would go to a 10.5 setup but with your 273 it will work with the small clutch just fine. Call Brewers or Passon as suggested and they will fix you up with the right clutch.

I'll give Wayne a call for sure.  Thanks.   If I did go 10.5 inch obviously I need a new flywheel but will my stock bell housing need changed?

Talk to Wayne or Jamie Passon
 if you are going to 10.5 then the 10.95 will bolt in also , I never use 10.5

It's sorta backwards, but. When I swapped the 340 into my 67 Valiant I kept the 9" clutch until it ripped the centre out of it and I went to the junkyard (those were the days) and bought the flywheel and 10.5" clutch out of a Dart and the whole shebang bolted right in. Why screw around? Just use the 340 stuff and that 273 will never hurt it. Just my

I am unfamiliar with thte 273 belhousing so I was not sure if the 130 tooth 10.5 / 10.95 system would bolt in or if there was some difference .

You  have to use the later bellhousing with the large flywheel. I would just do the swap to a 10.5/10.95 upon thinking about it. You can get the small clutch to work but the large clutch parts are very common and you'll be using readily available parts for the long term.

Called Wayne, going with the kit I posted in the first post for the 122 tooth flywheel.  For $190 you can't beat it.  Hoping it solves the issue.   Really don't want to upgrade the bell housing and clutch linkage to fit the 130 tooth flywheel but I tell you what, if it doesn't work I will be finding me an old 360 to take it off of that's for sure.   I'll keep you guys posted.   Clutch will be here Friday, getting the flywheel resurfaced and ready for install.

Installed that brewers performance package with the ten inch clutch disc for the 122 tooth flywheel.   Man that baby will talk to you now.   Easy first threw third burn out if you know what I mean.   So damn happy.
