It's too bad this went the way it did. Most likely if there was a shop that could have put in a new clutch and fixed the engine tick in the yellow car that would have been a great car to put some miles on and enjoy. The show car thing sounds great until you don't drive them because they are too "perfect". Good luck with the next chapter.

But wait this is exactly what you wanted or was looking for  was a Perfect documented car , most of these  these really are trailer queens . Most of us own less perfect cars so we can modify them & have a lot more fun with them .
I am caught in the same dilemma , my car is documented & rare although the #s engine was sitting 3 feet from the ar when I bought it the seller would not let the engine go for any price so I have a different engine in it now , I am unwilling to drive it & enjoy it , at times I wish I had a 70 318 car so I could do what I want with it which is why I had the second car a 71 Charger but it is gone now unfortunatly .

I originally bought the car from Tarquini because it was an original with one paint job done years before. I thought it would be the perfect car to occasionally drive around with and take to shows. I would have even driven it to MATS in Vegas...which is about 240 miles round trip. That was my wife's and my intentions. I looked high and low for someone here in St George to fix the engine. I had a mechanic here put in new rocker arms and rocker shaft but that didn't help. The thinking then became that the problem was lifters or the lower part of the engine. No one here wanted to touch that. So basically I then traded it (with total full disclosure about everything wrong including the carb switcheroo) for the cream car. I pretty much knew that I could never drive the cream Challenger like I would have driven the yellow Tarquini Challenger. That's how this all evolved.
Why did the seller not want to sell you the correct engine that went with your car? That is ridiculous. What good was it to him?

Thanks much Sheldon. It's really hard to get anything done in this small town of St George. I also searched high and low to find original NOS seat material, but none could be found. The reproduction of the material from all the outlets didn't even come close to a good match. What should have been a great experience turned out to be a nightmare.
So my recourse is to bring to light my story and expose crooks like Donald Tarquini in hopes that it will save anyone from going through the same ordeal.

I'm very sorry to hear that Cdnchallenger. I always thought I was a very good judge of character with talking to people over the phone. I always asked the right questions and thought I could get a feeling if someone was lying to me. Well...Donald Tarquini really had me fooled. I learned just how lucky I was in the past (with buying cars sight unseen on the internet) in that I never got burnt. I will never buy another car on the internet without a personal trip to go over the car. At the time of the Tarquini deal, I did not have a passport, but now I do. I will never go through what this jerk put me through again....and I sure hope none of you out there do either.
Alan (anlauto)...I bet you're sorry that you even started this thread. lol   But, you more than most here remember what I went through and was surprised and even commented when this all started last year that the Tarquini Challenger was supposed to be pristine. It's probably a good thing you did since I have been very quiet lately. Hey...maybe new members can learn something from reading this....and I'm hoping that they do.

Totally understood Alan. You have always been a helpful friend of mine on this site so I don't mind at all that you did. If it wasn't you...one of my other buddies would have asked. Honestly Alan, it's good that this stuff gets out there and doesn't stay buried. Others need to see that they need to be very very careful in this hobby because as I and others have found out....it's very easy to get burnt.

Its a sad day when someone screws you over, but at least it sounds like it finally worked out. Good info. I am a very trusting person also, its bad when someone takes advantage of that. Just like my last deal with the transport company, buts that another story.

Its definitely not a good feeling but I do believe in Karma. Donald Tarquini partially owned a company and built homes in Bolton Canada. I wonder if he treated his customers like this also.

I have no clue what peoples reasoning is about , , I offered him $$ or trade for other blocks but there was no way to get it .
30 years later I called him & asked where this all important block might be seeing as it really was only valuable to me & he almost dropped the phone , he could not believe I still had the car & now realized what effect it had or would have for me . Of course he had no clue where that block had gone , so I have a non numbers block in the car & seeing as it is the wrong block why build a date coded wrong block ? Might as well build what you would have ordered originally had I not been 9 when it was built  :naughty: Not hard to swap it back in if it ever appears .

That is one strange story!!! That block meant nothing to him compared to what it meant to you. Totally bizarre.

It meant something to him when I bought the car or he would not have kept it ... but what happened after that , who knows . At some point it became unimportant .

I guess so. Too bad. Everybody marches to a different drum.
