New Guy, leaving GM and eying MOPARs!
« on: September 01, 2016 - 10:16:21 AM »
Hi Everyone,

I have been a GM fan (and still am) for quite some time. I always liked the classic Mopars but never really gave them much thought for some reason. It seems like lately they have really caught my eye and I have been doing some research which brought me here. I just sold my Chevelle and I am starting to think about what I want to get next. I am really digging the '70 'cuda at the moment, but I am just in the learning stage right now. As cool as old GM's are, the appeal of Mopars comparative "rarity" really appeals to me. I would like to find a good solid builder car and do it up the way I want it. I'm more of a resto-mod guy than a numbers matching guy, so I'm hoping whatever I choose I can find a nice clean example and get to work on it.

Anyways, just wanted to say Hi, and I look forward to learning from all of you here!

Welcome to the site and the MOPAR world . . .well soon anyways.  I will mention that you may find that the mopars are a little more expensive to buy and build but the end result is well worth it!  Good luck in your search and the 70 cuda is a great car!  Hope it works out for you!

Welcome, a 72-74 is much cheaper to find a good builder car. If your going to build it your way anyways it can be made to look just like a much more expensive 70-71

Welcome to the fun side of the island!  As mentioned above, everything Mopar is 2-3x anything GM so be prepared.

Welcome, you came to the right place. Mopars are under rated as far as style, body lines on these cars are timeless. As far as rarity went to a show 800+ cars had one 70 Challenger and about 4-5 roadrunners, chargers and one dart.

Thank you everyone for the kind welcome. I realized Mopar was expensive, but I didn't realize it was 2 to 3 times the price. I guess I had better start saving up!

Nah: It depends what you're buying, who you know and what you're doing. If you're buying a project just try to buy one that is complete and together. Paint and body is what kills projects and that applies to all brands. I know lots of guys that have come over from the GM camp and they couldn't be happier with their Mopars.

Welcome! What model and year Chevelle did you have? I had mostly e-bodies, but a few Chevy's and Fords over the years also.

Thanks again everyone! Soundcontrol, it was a '65 Malibu (not true SS) with a 468 BBC and 700r4. Fun car, just ready for something different.

Welcome to the site and good luck with your quest. Yeah, Mopar's are more expensive to fix/buy, but if you're tired of the herd mentality and like the look in the other guys eyes when you strap it on him with said Mopar, then you're in the right place!
