340 cuda engine to trans brackets
« on: September 06, 2016 - 11:53:59 AM »
I blasted and painted my 340 engine to trans brackets for my cuda that I found on ebay... the starter/ driver side fit perfectly, but the pass side does no clear the oil filter stock adaptor, does someone have pics of a 340 with this oil adaptor and the brace in place?

Just had a look at the September 97 issue of Mopar Muscle. There is an article about A-body OE suspension details. The 71 Demon 340 in the article definately shows the braces in place as well as the oil filter adapter.

I know the 318 I pulled out of my Dart has the adapter on it. I'll have to look and see if the braces are on it as well.

Just an FYI, those braces shouldn't be painted. They are natural.

Interesting, was this only on 340's?

Was this to prevent torque on the bellhousing to prevent cracking?

318/340/360 all have those braces.  The lower part of the bell housing hangs really low on a small block without any support.  The funny thing is that the braces don't fit if you want to run full length headers.  Lots of people toss them in the trash.  I haven't read about any trans cases cracking because the supports were removed but the factory thought they were necessary.

The original post was edited after my first responce.  I believe the post had a link to an ebay add where the braces were shown painted engine color.  That isn't correct.  The correct finish for those braces has been debated before.  I found no paint on my originals.  I have some later model ones that are zinc dichromate plated.
