My first street / strip tire
« on: September 08, 2016 - 03:42:00 PM »
Ok here is my question . What should my tire presure be ? Tire is Mickey Thompson ET Street 255 60 15 . The man at discount tire said 30 lbs . A web site I found said 20 lbs .  Another one suggested 12 lbs for racing .  Chruco ? Thanks . :burnout:

See what range M/T suggests then test. Change pressure. Test again.  :2cents:

Recommended pressure should be on the sidewall.  Always check cold.

I run mine on the street @ 28 - on the track between 12 and 14psi depending on track prep. Well over 300 passes on multiple sets of MT street ET's and this is what works best for my car.

Draw a chalk line across the tread, roll forward a dozen feet, look at how much line has rubbed off, adjust pressure up/down to get optimal footprint. Cut pressur ein half for the track.

look at the density of the chalk too
if it is light at the edge it is overinflated , if it is lighter in the middle it is under inflated 24-26 seems about right 28 may be too high a little

Agreed -I was just out hammering mine and could tell in the rear view mirror that I have too much air in them due to the contact patch (otherwise known as burnout strips) left behind. Gonna drop the PSI and try this highly technical chalk method.

I got into it for the first time with the new tires today . I only went once so I can get out of the area before anyone calls me into the police . I can,t get over the difference .Car went straight as a arrow with very little spin  On the other hand my RPM,s wasn't high enough when I let the clutch out and the car hesitated a little but took right off after a second . I'm a little worried about beating on the car . Is there any weak points I should keep a eye on . Broken springs , leaf spring mounts ,and what ever el :working:se ? Having a ball so far . But do not want to wreck or hurt anything .  :working: Buy the way I love the tip about the chalk .

Seeing as you are hooking up better, frame connectors would be a wise addition. I had a friend back in the 80's that spent $ on the 383 in his cuda plus added M/T tires and after having fun one evening, his doors didn't shut properly anymore. Still usable but noticeable.
