Will a "800"hp engine run on pump gas? It s a bored and stroked Hemi.

But I'm sure it would run.... How well & for how long depend on a lot of factors....

91 octane should work so long as you are not running high compression. It might not perform as well as you want, but it should run. You might need to retard the timing a little to reduce/eliminate detonation.

This one was supposedly 793 on the engine builders dyno but we dynoed it and it was only 705. I'm putting a new camshaft in it next week and we'll see how that goes. If we were serious about it we would run a big dominator on it instead. I find a lot of people that think they need 800HP in a street car are quite impressed when they ride in a true 600HP one. Not saying you're that guy but I've taken a lot of people for rides in my stuff that just didn't realize what a truly fast car feels like.

Very good point, the majority of people really do not understand what "big" HP is. My 01 Viper with 450HP will scare the crap out most people and will certainly get you into trouble faster than you can blink. 800hp is pretty much unusable on the street IMO. Yes it is cool to say "its 800HP" but if you cannot put it to the ground, it is just a tire killer (along with all the other parts). Not hating on big HP, just saying big HP sucks down a lot of $$ for not much return in terms of drivability.

I agree, had an '84 camaro at one time with a heavily worked small block. Ran high 9's low 10,s all day. It was not fun (after the first few minutes that is) nor practical on the streets at all. It would "run" on pump gas but it was not happy with it. Mixed 80-20 it did much better.
For the street I would stick close to ~600-650 max for a fun car that would be both Driveable and wild.

The old adage usually rings true - the higher the horsepower the less dependable it will be.. :bigsmile:

At a certain point they become temperamental and not so much a joy except in a straight line for 9-10 seconds.

800hp is a little extreme for me. Just seems like it would use different fuel other than pump. Excuse my ignorance. This is all new to me. This is why I'm asking.

I would consider buying this but not much is known about the engine. And yes I'm still looking for a BB Cuda.

I saw that one, was originally A 340 H code. from the description he wrote it sounds like he knows half of what he is talking about. some of the undercoating looks fresh, makes me wonder what is under that. :dunno:

Just by the story and the intake setup I would guess that car is about 525HP if it is a 478 and if it is running correctly. That intake would limit HP to about 525HP by itself. The car looks okay (Check the trunk floor, I hope it is the original) and might be worth the asking but only after a personal inspection IMO.

that car is kind of cobbled together, scroll through the pictures and look at that fly safety loop (or driveshaft support depending on how you look at it). Not a terrible car for the money, but definitely will need a fair amount of work. It might not have rust per se, but that trunk floor needs to be replaced or will at some point.
