On the small block pan, when adding the front horizontal baffle, you'll also need to drill a small ~3/4" hole for the dip-stick to enter.  I've also seen small 1/4" holes drilled in the baffles to help returning oil into the sump.   The rear needs the baffle to be cut for the pick-up tube to clear it (as shown in the HOT ROD article).

I've had this mod done to my car about 40 years ago (for autocross intentions)... best engine mod ever!  Now, with the Milodon road race pan available, that will be the next step to better oil control (and possibly adding an Accusump with remote filter).

I used that article to make the baffle for my 360 pan.  After it was welded in place, I filled the pan with water to check for leaks at the weld sites.  I sloshed the water around and you could see an immediate different.  Most notably was during braking and cornering.  With the large pickup tube notch in the back, I didn't notice that it did much for acceleration.  However, I was just using water.  Oil will behave a little differently.

It's too bad that MaMopar didn't factory produce these SB pans, in particular, with such welded baffles... would've saved many thousands of owners oil pressure problems and given longer life to engine/s bearings.

I believe the BB pans for 440-6 and Hemis have front and rear factory baffles (for acceleration/deceleration purposes)... far better than having no baffles at all.

Will the windage tray be alright though if you don't plan on hard driving or autocrossing?

The baffles and windage tray serve different purposes. I think the point they're making is that baffles are a cheap means of prolonging engine life.

A stock pan without any oil control baffles completely welcomes oil starvation upon easy acceleration and easy deceleration, and the same for any cornering (expressway exit ramps, etc)... In my opinion, any/all stock non-baffled pans should have at least front and rear horizontal baffles added... even during a "restoration" of any degree.... it'll be doing a HUGE favor towards engine life... your engine and wallet/bank account will thank you in the future.

Windage tray finally arrived, so installed it this weekend.

I also made a baffle for acceleration. I didn't make a forward (deceleration) baffle section, since the pan looks plenty steep in the front. I've attached the mock-up photo, but it doesn't show that I folded a 1/2-in flap on the low slope. There is a gap allowing passage on the top left corner, but it should hold enough oil for the occasional hard launch.

Wagon -- nice job.... but... while you're this far, take a bit more time and add that front deceleration baffle... your engine (and wallet) will thank you!

Yep, my '73 340 had one when it was tore down for the first time
