Not hard 8 bolts/nuts , the upper rear is the hardest to get to often there is an access hole in the trunk floor

Cool. I think I have the access holes in my original trunk pan. Are those the orange plugs on the hump in the trunk?

Inspect the holes closely on fit of the bolt going thru on the upper rear shock mounts.

Quite often, these may be wallowed out because of age, air shocks, insufficient torque, or just parts that wore out.

The last thing you want is a hardened bolt eating away the mount area and getting worse.

I had this happen on mine and welded a washer as a re reinforcement to prevent it getting worse.

See the plug just to the left of the spare?

here you see both

for some reason they are not present on some....perhaps  some replacements did not come cut for them?

1970 used different plugs on the TOP of that hump...not on the back side like other years.  It also wasn't JUST on 1970's.  There was some carryover into 71 I believe.

perfect. I'll visegrip one end and ratchet the other and get them off. for the fronts, just remove the tires? can I do all of this with the car on the ground?

It would be very difficult to do this with car on the ground. You don't need to take any tires off. Just jack up front which you really need to do anyway to allow room for the shock to drop out of the upper a-arm area. Put the front back on the ground and jack up the rear and repeat. Just did my fronts, doing rears in a couple days.

The only ones that I've seen without any hole have had the trunk floor replaced.
