Black or Plum Krazy
« on: September 19, 2016 - 09:31:27 PM »
Since the early 70's when I was in high school and totally mesmerized by muscle cars, particularly Mopars, I had a thing for the color purple. I always thought that at some point when I got one it should be FC7. Now I am building a 70' Challenger that will not be going back to Top Banna. Maybe if it were an AAR as they look great due to all the black graphics.
Anyway, as I have had the car for about 2 years and it is drivable but far from being done I am wondering about the reality of having it painted purple. I think a convertible with a white top and interior is very hard to beat in FC7. But a SE must have a vinyl top that is very prominent in the rear with the small window. I think that window looks much better with black vinyl around it vs white.
After looking at many colors on SE's black stands out as the most dramatically *****ing color. Black top, interior and paint, maybe a red side stripe or a black hood "graphic".
Anyway, what do you think is better and why. Pics are welcome.

That's a tuff one, both colors look great on a car.
Black cars turn heads for sure, but is tougher to keep clean and swirl marks out.
I think a purple 70 Challenger is iconic though. It's your call  :eek4:, Google images can help. Either way it'll be sharp! Good luck.

I've always loved Black on Cudas & Chargers, Even Dusters & Demons... I've seen allot of Black Challengers, but I've only seen a couple Challengers that looked good in Black....  :2cents:

I think Plum Crazy looks great on Challengers, lots of colors look great on Challengers, just not black....

Having owned a black '71 Challenger, it will be a long time (if ever) that I own a black car again.  They are impossible to keep clean, show every little flaw, scratch, an ding.  I would love to own a FC7 car, but I would also consider painting it the new Plum Crazy color too.

If it's opinions your looking for.... Ya can't beat Black BUT if it's not done extremely well I'd say don't bother.
Plum Crazy...I'm OK with it, most likely you'd have the only one on your block...I'll leave it at that.
Other colors?.. Farmboy's custom mix Burnt Orange caught my eye

NON stock color an option?  Mike's car always looked DAMN KOOL

I have the same problem, can't decide between the two. Mine is FC7 now, looks great, but I have this image in my head with triple black, maybe a color stripe, maybe a colored carpet since I like some color, black cloth top, leather interior, perfect trim etc..... Like this one.

Sublime with black top & stripes is hard to beat, I'd go with the Hellcat color.

You've thought about a purple Mopar since high school. Paint it purple.

I had the picture of a white e-body in my mind since I was 13. Didn't hesitate to paint my car white.  :2cents:

Good point dodj . By the way IMO a challenger is one of the relatively few cars that really look good white. If a car has any awkward lines they become more obvious in white. Conversely black hides them. Black makes most any car look good. :cooldancing:
