« on: September 21, 2016 - 09:49:02 AM »
anyone have a trick to install the floor seal that goes around the shifter rods for a floor shift console, auto trans in a 71 cuda?

both ends of the rod are welded, and cant seem to stretch the new "gasket" over the rod and arm. tried grease and heat no luck....

I reused my original one.  My guess is that the factory installed the seal before one of the brackets was welded to the rods.

On a related note, how are you refinishing those rods?  Mine showed signs of being silver zinc plated.

I blasted mine with silica sand
then a coat of duplicolor "cast coat aluminum" paint finish, gave me a nice " close to" silver zinc finish.

I painted mine too.  If that rubber boot would have been easily removed, I would of had them re-zinc plated.

You will have to cut one of the welds, remove the lever , install the boot and re-weld the lever back in the correct position. The boots where made because they are the same boot that was used on the 67-69 A, B and C-Body console auto torque shafts where the top lever is bolted on so the boot can be replaced on those no problem
