440 Intake Manifold Gasket

IS there a better gasket than our stock intake gasket for a 440?

Like a metal tray. Then use a paper gasket for the intake runners?

Not sure if I used the same one as dfrazz recommended, but I ordered a Felpro Valley Pan from Napa and you don't need a separate gasket to go with it.  Just run a bead of silicone gasket maker around the edges. Cost approx $23 if memory serves me right.

There are various choices for valve trays like your link, however one thing to keep in mind, they are designed for aftermarket heads where the rail below the intake ports is straight... Your stage IV heads have stepped areas which won't be sealed..... 

To install a single piece valley tray one head has to come off... They make two pieces valley trays & some work, others leak terribly...

The advantage of a tray is it separates the oil in the valley area from the vacuum in the intake so high oil consumption problems are a thing of the past.... Also some are designed with a removable panel to access the lifters

End of the day I still run a stock style bathtub with the blocked heat riser....

I have stage VI heads. Would be nice if this tray would go on without having to remove a head.
Will see if modifying it and a little RTV will do the job, or get a plate of aluminum and try something else.
ya, to eliminate sucking oil into the intake ports is great.

Sucking oil can be solved pretty easily without a valley plate....  Try either Loctite 518 or Hondabond 4 they are different from one another but both are very good... FWIW I prefer the Hondabond 4, never had a BB Mopar suck oil when it was sealed with Hondabond.....

Mopar online Performance says the above tray fits any RB with any cylinder head.
So, guess this means we can ditch the Mopar Big Block valley pan, and eliminate
chance for oil to be sucked into intake ports.

You will need the "thicker" .060" intake manifold gasket when running a valley plate, examples:

yes, thanks, though the ones you referenced are for Indy heads. At least one reference.
yes, was gonna use .060 because the intake and head surfaces don't match up very well.
Might even use two .060s. Bolt holes on intake have been enlarged a little. But to lose
that Mopar metal tray is really good!

I wasn't sure of the port dimensions, but the thick gasket(s) .060" are necessary. There might even be thicker ones out there. Common thicknesses are .015", .030" and .060". Enlarged bolt holes? Check your port match, there is not much room for error. :2thumbs:
