What are my rocker arms telling me?
« on: September 23, 2016 - 09:57:52 PM »
340 rocker arms.
Some tips are worn on the side, pretty good grove in one of them. Valve stem top looks worn a little too. It's happening in 4 or 5 places.
What's going on?
What else do I need to look for?

Check to make sure the rockers were installed onto the shafts in the correct order.  There are left offset and right offset rockers. It looks like a couple of them might have been reversed.  Check to make sure the rocker is centered on the valve tip.  If a "left" was installed where a "right" should be, you could get that kind of wear.

Your right, I found a partial picture of a 340 rocker assembly, just happens it's showing the rockers I posted that the tips are wearing offset/badly. If I'm looking at this correctly #3 exhaust and #5 intake are lefts, but should be rights?

Where could I find info/pictures on all rockers to check correct L&R orientation? Or is it simply L&R front to back?

Also some rockers are looser than others on shaft, some I can barley wobble others are pretty loose. What's should I look for or is this normal?

Maybe it's time for lash caps ( because of the work valve tips?) and roller rockers?  :-\

Will take a look at those.
Did a leak down test and found some bad valves

There should be a left and a right for each cylinder. Summit has stock replacement rockers and shafts for a really good price.

Great
All other rockers have L&R's so it was just the 2 and that was the reason for the clacking.
Just looked at summit yup that'll work  :2thumbs:, will order enough to do both heads, their off now and I am calling around on Monday out in the valley area to see if I can get a better pricing on a valve job.
Thanks again
