Powermaster alternator problem
« on: September 26, 2016 - 04:16:51 PM »
Has anyone had problems with the 140 amp Powermaster street alternator? Mine has a grayish dust that's forming in the back of it.

FWIW, my car and my father's both have the 95A version and he managed to smoke one of them but Powermaster replaced the alternator free of charge and he hasn't had an issue since (wiring was replaced at same time, which may have contributed to the issue). I've never had an issue with mine.... that being said, I've seen several negative reviews/posts over the years.... but for the price and it being chromed, I'm happy.

Chryco - with our new project, I want to be able to up the electrical system from 12 to 16 volts at some point.  So was looking at Powermaster XS ... so could use same alt and just up voltage output

You think they are crap?  Do you have any suggestions for our situation?  Or manufacturer.  Need at least 140 amp ... 150-160 I would prefer ... and if could change/regulate voltage up to 16v would be perfect.  I've searched/googled ... but its the internet opinion poll ...

Thanks!!!!!

I have not looked for a 16 v alt , Brad found a high power unit though for his car .
Maybe a rebuilder could create a 16v 160 amp unit for you , I had a custom 150 amp built for one project with a lot of power draw

I cannot think of a MFG that I trust off the shelf , Summit or Jegs may have something , I just had most of mine built locally , you could buy the powermaster & have a rebuilder check it over carefully , I have just seen too many fail very quickly

Hey Marc, How've y'all been?  ....
Here's a bolt on custom job  http://www.qualitypowerauto.com/item_557/Chrysler-Mount-Mega-Amp-Alternator.htm
That may be the one Brad has ... Those upgraded OE jobs don't improve the idle output only at upper rpms

Very nice - thanks!!!   We're gonna have to cut into the engine plate - no big deal, to make it fit ... and this one is actually dimensionally not that big .. least for what you get!
