Caltracs or Pinion snubber

Guys, I have just fitted my D60 to my Cuda and need to control the axle wind up, its a truck diff so it has no bolt on snubber ability, right now there is about 2 3/4" clearance (drive shaft to floor just in front of the diff) as its a street car for the most, do I go caltrac or pinion snubber, new engine going in soon (600HP/727 manual), I will be hitting the drag strip from time to time as well.

Maybe wait and see how it behaves? Maybe just clamping the front section of the leaf springs will work for you.

Right now it has a stock 340 with a shift knitted trans, I took off with moderate acceleration and hit second and the yoke hit the floor! So I'm going to definitely require something, I'll try clamping the front segments but just have a feeling I'll need more with the bigger engine and sticky tires I feel,  :dunno:

Greg - I can say with a lot of certainty that back in the day running a moderate 440 6 pack with no traction aids at all, I never had the yoke hit the floor... I think your springs are a bit weak... just saying. That said, the home made cal tracs that are posted on line (and on this site somewhere) would be where I would be headed especially considering the cost to get parts to where you are. You are an engineering guy, I am very sure you can devise something locally.

It's a bit of a combination of issues causing the driveshaft ( sorry not yoke) tagging the floor, the E body driveshaft reduces its diameter to I guess 2 3/4"? at the end to clear a floor brace, I've now got a full diameter 3.5" driveshaft and, I need to nose down the pinion angle by about a degree, I have 4 1/2 leaves in the spring pack so I do need to clamp them as well, I'm loathed to add a leaf but can if I have to as I don't want to raise the height of the back of the car if I can help it

I was going to suggest a pinion snubber as it is cheaper but you have a truck diff. Yes, just order a set of Caltracks and be done with it. They are the best vendor I have dealt with in the past year, They shipped the parts the very day I ordered them. The parts are really high quality too. The same day I ordered the Caltracs I also ordered some subframe connectors from a well known supplier, both businesses charged my CC the same day and said they would ship the parts right away. Cal track did but the other company didn't and two months later when I finally received the very expensive subframe connectors I discovered they managed to powdercoat them the wrong colour too. It's cross border so it isn't worth shipping them back but I won't deal with that company ever again. I would deal with Cal trac with no hesitation whatsoever.

They sell shims to put between the leaf spring and the perch to change the pinion angle.  I believe each shim is 2 degrees.  You could add a leaf and use a lowing block to get the back end where you want it.  I guess it depends on if you want it to look stockish or not.

Thanks guys, runcharger, which ones did you get the pivot plate that hangs down 3.5" or 5"?
Burdar, yes I am installing as set of 2 deg plates however i also need to raise the trans a little, using the crank/trans centerline, my drive shaft rises from there 2.7* and my pinion angle is a further 1* giving me a total of 3.7* nose down pinion angle compared to the crank. right now I have a slight vibration due to uni angle issue. so dropping the nose of the pinion 1* is preferred but you cant get them easily.

Seeing as you have the Ford Truck Dana couldn't you simply add a pinion snubber to the floor and let the rubber part hit on the rear end? Countless bolt on options available....

We used the short, street ones. Fast and easy install and they seem to do the job. The car had new XHD springs with clamps and the D-shift hit the floor no problem. I haven't tuned the bars yet as we still don't have slicks on it and street tires are hopeless.

If I could find a push in version I could as there is a 1/2" hole directly above the pinion I could use, I don't want to drill holes in the floor as I'm trying to keep mods to the body minimal due to matching numbers car
