    How do I stop the seller?

    I just bought a used car. The seller  lives 3000 miles away. He wants payment in cash or cashiers check. I have no problem with that. I just cant jump in my car and drive over there. How do i pay the seller? I'm afraid that if I pay him he can just pocket the money and when the shipper arrives there is no car. How can I stop the seller from stealing my car?

    wire transfer from your bank account to his, if he says no...look for another car.  if he pulls something shady, your bank can rescind the wire

    The car was pretty expensive....Spend a few more hundred and fly out to handle the deal in person. Pay for the car and get the title, if you're still worried move the car to a public storage or arrange pick-up the same time.

    if you do this, DO NOT fly with large amounts of cash. it can and will be seized by law enforcement as 'potential drug money' and it is up to YOU to prove it is not (and the courts drag their feet, you have to pay for the lawyer, etc,etc. always a losing situation). I've seen a LOT of cases in the last several years of folks losing tens of thousands of dollars to this bull**** tactic

    You just declare the correct amount of cash you're bringing with you and paper work from the EBay auction....

    I have a customer in Canada, Ontario area, Just bought a 70 challenger out of Washington state, He set up the funds as a trust with a trustee/attorney. When the car gets loaded the buyer notified the trustee to release the money to the sellers account. this was between 2 private individuals also.

    I have to agree with Alan. When I bought my orange car in Wa. state I drove down and seen it in person. Then I transferred the funds from my bank to the sellers. I really think in this case I would fly over, inspect the car and go to the bank with the seller and give him his funds in cash or a bank draft. Then I would move the car to safe storage (perhaps a tow yard?) while waiting to ship it. This should all be able to be done in one day.
    I did the same thing when I bought my Viper this year. I drove down, inspected the car, seen the paperwork (I had already done a lien check), took the seller to my bank, got a bank draft right there, went to the insurance office, registered and insured it in my name. The seller was honest so I left it at his house for 1 month before I could fly down and pick it up.

    probably anything more than a grand or two is a red flag. they want the free revenue

    And as long as you declare it...that is the secret by the way...DECLARE IT!!!, you should be just fine.  If you have just taken a large sum out of the bank, I think it makes sense to have the paper work to show where the money came from.

    That being said, I believe the $10,000 limit (i.e., if you have $10,000 or more then that you must declare it) only applies to international flights.  Now being Canadian, I could be wrong...and it could apply to any flight with in the US.
