70 Cuda wiper motor not parking and only single speed
« on: October 01, 2016 - 05:01:15 PM »
Need help with my wiper issue. Converted from a two speed to three speed setup. Changed the motor, transmission crank, transmission arms and the switch to a variable. Should work but I am unable to put the wiper in park or get more than one speed. Replaced the switch but have the same issue. Do I need to change the plug connections on the switch.  If so can someone share a photo or let me know what the wiring colors to which lead are.  Appreciate it.

No, you don't need to change the plug connections. I did this conversion on my car a few years back and everyting was just plug and play. Here's a reference picture of the plug for both switches.

I'd be looking at testing the wiper motor.

Be sure you have a good quality ground. Mine was doing some really weird stuff due to a bad ground.

Mine was doing that exact same thing and it ended up being the switch . . .  :dunno:

There's a video on YouTube of someone showing how the wiper behaves when there is a bad ground.

Found it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UmP3SYjdQSQ

The ground everyone if referring to is the switch body.  Run a jumper from the metal frame that the switch mounts to to a good ground, then test.  Make sure the motor also has a good ground but the switch panel factory ground from the mounting screws is a known weak point hence the jumper wire.

Tried all of this to find that there is a bad wire in the harness somewhere. Took the temporary shortcut of putting together a new harness from the wiper motor to the switch.  All good until she goes into storage this fall and I can take the time and unwrap the harness. Thanks all for the advice.
