AAR Hoods
« on: October 01, 2016 - 07:18:59 PM »
I'm about ready to paint and the body guy tells me the AAR hood I have will require alot of work due to imperfections and likely shrinkage in the future.  I've looked at American Sports Car's (in Florida) and ASC&P (in Pennsylvania) fiberglass hoods.  Pricing isn't that different and they seem like high quality from the descriptions.  ASC&P claims superior resin and structure in their product.  Has anyone used either of these or know anything about the products that may help my decision?

I bought the asc hood right as they took over stinger, shipped safely and I think it's good quality, didn't need any real work but I'm not exactly a show car.

Thanks.  You make number 3 so I think that I have a winner.  Was the turn around time good?

I plan to do the hood in body color B5 with a black trim of some sort on the scoop; either black louvers or mesh.  I'll also have the spoiler in black.

I have a TA hood from AAR, now Stinger.  Only complaint is they stencil AAR into the mold.
Had I known, I would have asked them to not do that.  Not a big deal, but I'd rather not see that when I open the hood.

I guess it would be ok on a Cuda, make sure they don't have Stinger there now.

Body color sounds cool to me, the turnaround was fairly fast and when you order they will give you an idea of what their pipeline looks like. For me shipping was most of the timeline, I heard people say they  need extra time to cure before painting but it took me so long to install it wasn't an issue that could have come up at all...

Excellent. Thanks for the tip.  I delivered the car for final metal prep and paint with an AAR hood but it seems like a lower quality hood probably for a racer and the body guy warned of his concerns.  It's always something right? I need a quality replacement quickly. Thanks guys.

I also have a hood from AAR fiberglass. It's a 70 challenger rally hood. Looked great at first but don't use regular hood springs with a fiberglass hood, it will warp.  Ask me how I know

I agree , don't use springs. I bent up a 3/8 rod and use it like this....

I bought 2 different sets of springs , wasted my money.
Any fiberglass part will require body work to get them right.

I do the exact same thing, good to know I'm in good company with that technique ... It's so easy....
