My Son's 2007 Mustang needs help
« on: October 11, 2016 - 04:44:39 PM »
Hey guys I know this isn't an old car but since you always have good suggestions with my old cars I figured I'd ask.

My 17 year old son has a 2007 V6 mustang. Something is wrong with the transmission and I don't know what is. The overdrive sensor starts flashing on the dash board and when I drive the car and put it in drive it will not engage and move forward. The car is an automatic and it won't engage in Drive, It just revs up when I push the gas. If I put it into 1st it will go, then shift to 2nd then 3rd although it does clunk. As soon as I shift it to drive it stops and just rev's up again. It revs as though its in neutral. The car will start in park and neutral.

I was thinking it could be the shifter cable. What do you guys think? thanks.

 Dave

There is no shifter cable... All electronic control... Could be a sensor or solenoid pack.... Hows the fluid?

Going to check the fluid tonight.  Have to get under and check it tonight.  No dipstick on this model.

You may want to ask him if he's been doing some burnouts, sounds like overdrive got ripped out of it. Worse case scenario. "Ask me how I know about v6 auto mustangs :-/"

Takes after good ol dad if so.  But I don't think so he drives like a slug and so cautious.

any codes showing? if you don't have one yet, I'd recommend getting an OBD scanner. I went the cheap route and picked up the Torque app https://torque-bhp.com/ + the OBD2 bluetooth plug in module (works with any OBD2 port, so you can use it on multiple vehicles to get good value) https://www.amazon.com/BAFX-Products-34t5-Bluetooth-Android/dp/B005NLQAHS/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1476230899&sr=8-12&keywords=OBD+torque

have you checked the TSBs? looks like #9-12-12 could be relevant https://lmr.com/products/2007-Mustang-TSB-Recall

a google search shows a lot of posts on various transmission issues for those years

Good idea and no it hasn't pulled any codes.  I do have a scanner and it doesn't hurt to check.  I'll let you know if anything comes up tomorrow.  Thanks

http://blog.bluespringsfordparts.com/1632/dtc-decoded-p1700/

Ford DTC Decoded: P1700

Code Meaning: Transmission intermediate failure.

What’s Wrong: This is a generic code that means input versus output is being delayed on the transmission.

Common Causes of This Issue: When this code is the only issue, trouble code, or symptom, it is almost always indicative of debris in the transmission. Most of the time, flushing the transmission will remedy this issue.

So I would have to take it somewhere to have it flushed just draining the pan and adding a new filter won't do it? Thanks

With your issue I would try changing the solenoid before handing over a bunch of cash.  Certain ford electronic trans are notorious for this problem especially under harder driving conditions. the codes should tell you.

P0700: Transmission Control System Malfunction
P0750: Shift Solenoid A Malfunction
P0751: Shift Solenoid A Performance or Stuck Off
P0753: Shift Solenoid A Electrical
P0755: Shift Solenoid B Malfunction
P0756: Shift Solenoid B Performance
P0758: Shift Solenoid B Electrical

:wavingflag:  Quit being offended by everything, I am sure you are doing something that upsets me, but I am not complaining about you!!! It is a free county get over yourself!

Does anyone have a part number for the solenoid?  And where would it be located?  Thanks
