Identify this carb!
« on: June 24, 2005 - 08:07:25 AM »
Good Morning y'all,

Here is a carb that I have sitting on my shelf.  I have no idea where it came from or what it fits, but the number on it is 288 9636SA.  It almost has to be a Mopar carb since that's about all I play with.  Can anyone help me figure out if it'll work on my 340?  If you need more info on it or more pics, let me know, and I'll get them on the thread.  Thanks!

Winston

Definately a Carter - looks to be one of the AVS series maybe??

I had a Carter on mine and liked it very much - it's on my brother's car right now.

What you have here is a later model AFB..a 9000 series carb..AKA carter competition carb. Its an EGR compatible carb, 625 CFM, Mopar type carb. The model # brakes down like this...9000 series, 625 cfm...add 10 to the part # for EGR, add an additional 1 for Mopar...Chevy adds 0, ford adds 2. a ford carb of this type would be a 9637, chevy 9635. non EGR would be...Mopar 9626, Ford 9627, Chevy 9625.

Hope this helps....you have an aftermarket Carter there...AFB based.

I'd say its a good choice for a street driven fairly stock 340...rebuild it, set it up by the book and you should be fine.

Thanks to all of you help me figure this out.  It looked like a Carter to me, but since I couldn't find the word 'Carter' on it anywhere, I wasn't sure.  Maybe I'll discover it once I get all the grime and grease off of it.  ;D

Thanks again!
