Air fuel meter. How do you get the cable in to the cabin
« on: October 13, 2016 - 01:35:45 PM »
I have an LM-1 wideband. It has the O2 to sensor screwed into the the exhaust before the H pipe. The sensor runs a cable to the handheld control unit. How does everyone get the cable to the handheld inside the car? '70 Cuda convertible.

TIA

Going to have to make a hole. I have a WB A/F gauge in my Cuda and had to make a hole in the trans tunnel up at the front. The ends are fairly large, so your hole and subsequent cover needs to cover it. There are a number of aftermarket type covers/grommets so you are not left with a gapping hole. I usually make a 2 piece type cover so that when in place, only the cable is coming out.

The LM-1 model is usually used for temporary readings and not a permanent affixed AFR guages.

You can make a temp hole and then cover it up or if only temporary figure out how to bring it into the car. As I think I remember the cables are fairly long?

I have thoughts of also getting an AF gauge... can't the wiring simply be passed through the shifter hole in the trans tunnel (automatic may be different than manual)?
Autocross/road racers go in deeper... and come out harder!

I'd hate to make a hole.  I'm not sure how I could snake it through the shifter hole. Perhaps removing the boot temporarily.  The smallest aperture would be to drop the O2 sensor through its hole. The connectors are larger than the O2 sensor

No need to cut any holes. Make a slice in the body plug that is closest to your o2 sensor and run the cable through the body plug. Then just run the cable under the carpet near the sill plate and kick panel and then up to the dash frame. I ran it all under the dashframe, the wiring to the gauge was trickier but I just ran it through the ashtray and up to the gauge which I secured with one of the screws that attach the dash lights. All easy to remove that way with no evidence.

Thx.  I'll look for the plug.  It's just a temporary thing to get the carbs dialed in. No permanent gauge.

I ran the cable through the oval shaped plug for the clutch rod since I have an automatic... You could also use the plug that was for manual pump type windshield washers...

Thanks for the schematic.  More options. Have to see how long the cable is.

I fed both of my harnesses up thru the bottom of the car up thru the auto shifter boot. Then under the carpet/console to the firewall.

Ran my cables up through the floor on the pass side through large body plug under the carpet and ran it up to the firewall and behind the heater box. Then I routed it to the glove box where I can plug in my scanner. You don't even notice the cables under the carpet. I leave the cables in the car and pull the O2s when I am done tunning.
