Info on Repro trunk racks
« on: October 21, 2016 - 07:02:57 PM »
Need to have the factory trunk rack re-done on my 70 Cuda. It looks like chrome and it is pitted. All I can find is the rack in stainless...is this correct and does anybody have any experience with the aftermarket racks or should I send mine out to re-chrome?

The original luggage racks are chrome.
They pit and chrome peels.
I remove my luggage rack over the winter and store it in the basement.

If that rack is stainless it would be much better than chrome.
Stainless you can buff out imperfections not chrome.

I just installed one yesterday. A nice alternative to an expensive NOS one or the cost of re-chroming an original. :2thumbs:
I've taught you everything you know.....but I haven't taught you everything I know !

Mine also has the original rack that needs rechromed due to pitting. Biggist thing is that the originals have a curve to them that flows with the contour of the deck lid while some aftermarket pieces do not. A few years ago I spent $800 on a supposedly oem piece and when I received it I saw it wasn't countoured like my original. When I tried installing it, it wouldn't fit without modifieing the deck lid holes. Thank god the seller gave me a full refund after sending him pics of the difference. My question is does the piece you posted a link to have the countour I'm talking about, and did it fit without any mods?

Does anyone have installation instructions or pictures of where all the luggage rack installation hardware pieces go? Thanks.
