Door Nomenclature plates
« on: October 24, 2016 - 08:43:22 PM »
I'm preparing for paint and am looking for guidance on what to do with the nomenclature plate on the driver door.  I was trying to keep with the original but it is aged and faded and since it appears these are not stamped can they be taped and painted around or do they get removed and reinstalled? Do you guys buy new plates with the data applied?

My mistake Alan. It's a 1973 Barracuda that I am doing a resto-mod designed like an AAR autocross.  I had not seen these plates sold anywhere.  Just to clarify, I'm referring to the plate on the end of the door with the VIN#, specifications, vehicle weight and such.

That's referred to as a VIN sticker.  As Alan said, they are available new from ECS.  The stickers are designed to be destroyed if someone tries to remove them.  That's so the sticker can't be moved to another car.  Write down all the info and take some good pictures of it before it is removed.  Your 73 will have an MDH code on it.  That stands for month/day/hour.  That's when the car was at the end of the assembly line.  If the sticker is destroyed before you copy it, you will never get that info back.

ECS is the place to get that item.  You can send a photo with your order so they get it correct.  They have other decals etc there too.
