Strange...there is no VIN stamped where I would expect:

That's the 68 location.... 69 is on the passenger side oil pan rail just behind the engine mount...

The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

That's the date casting stamp.  Blocks were cast months and sometimes over a year in front of when the engine was put in a car.  1971 440+6 cars are famous for having engines cast nearly a year before the car was built.  And Hemi's were only cast on a few specific days throughout each year because they didn't need as many.  The production year normally started around August so a Hemi block cast that late in 1968 could be a 69 or even a better chance a 1970.

Then look at the built date.  All Hemi's were built in Marysville plant and it looks to me that it was put together on Dec 30th 1969.  That would make it a 1970 engine.  I'm asking you to confirm the VIN as I'm looking for 3 1970 Hemi engines that I am missing for my cars.  Please post the VIN and you might be in some good money.  Either way, a 1970 Hemi is worth more then a 1968.

Does that help?

In your first photo of the bare block, look at that area between the first two main cap crossbolts on the right hand side of the block (directly down from the X cat in the block and 1 inch up from where the oil pan attaches). That's where the VIN will be stamped if there is one. I've found quite a few blocks out of 71 Hemi cars that were cast in 68 so you might be able to make someone very happy and pocket enough pesos to complete a Hemi build.
If it isn't someone's missing block it looks like a great builder anyway. Personally I would throw away the KB pistons and put quality pistons in it along with a 4.15 crank.

Yup, there's the VIN pad so it's for sure not a 68.  You're looking for a small number that will be something like "0B123456" about 1/4" tall right on the passenger pan rail side where the oil pan bolts on.  My money is on a 1970 block.  You scored man!!!!

Just looking at my pictures, I don't see anything.  I will take a closer look tomorrow.

Its on the machined area right on the oil pan rail between the cross-bolts for Main Caps #2 and #3. It should be a partial VIN consisting of the last eight characters of the VIN like in the picture below.

Cheers!

Ok...stopped by my garage and there IS a VIN number in that location.  I took some pictures of it with my good camera :)  I got called to a client location but will post them when I have some time.
