Speedo teeth
« on: October 27, 2016 - 03:14:27 AM »
I changed my 276 gears to 355 SG.  Need 33 tooth speedo deal based on my tires and speedo being way off.

Chrycopsycho recommended "raise the rear of the car as high as your jack will take it this puts all the fluid forward then remove the retainer with a catch pan under it so you lose minimal fluid  & pay attn to the position , the yes you have alum , housing is marked for the tooth count as the gears are different diameters so it has to be inserted in the correct position so it will mesh with the shaft properly"

Any other suggestions or threads out there?  I know little about cars and would appreciate any tips.  How do insure I insert the new unit correctly?

Thanks!!!

There should be small notches in the speedo gear housing.  There are also numbers cast into the housing next to the notches.  These numbers correspond to the gear tooth count.  The trans case also has a bump on it, right next to the speedometer gear housing hole.  All you have to do, it match the tooth count of the gear you have, to the corresponding notch on the housing.  Line up the housing notch and the trans bump when you do the install.

Ah, Burdar, you are the best.  Always hooking me up.  I think I can handle this swap.  Those 355 gears are a lot of fun, just swapped out the 276 set.  As always, THANKS.
