Flat Spot Tire Cure ?
« on: October 27, 2016 - 08:17:22 AM »
Hello all,

Any experience with this product to stop flat spot on tires?

https://raceramps.com/car-ramps/car-storage-ramps/flatstoppers/

My Nitto 555's don't store well, even for a couple weeks....

Thanks!

I just bought this
http://www.reverselogic.us/2-stage-incline-ramps.html#!/78-Race-Ramps-with-12-High-Platform/p/28869851

and 2 pairs of this in the 12" height. They wil act as the ones you linked only higher.

So far so good I like them, good product! My garage is too low for a hoist so these were the next best thing IMO.

I was just looking at the same thing, a bit expensive I think so I was trying to come up with a cheaper alternative. The tires on my Viper always get flat spots and I am sure my 555's on my Cuda will as well (if it ever gets off jack stands). Maybe just move the car a little monthly  :dunno:
Current Mopar
70 Challenger RT 440-6 EFI, 73 Cuda 416-6 EFI
05 Hemi Durango, 01 Ram 4x4, 14 Ram 2500 4X4, 10 PCP Challenger 6 spd RT, 01 Viper GTS ACR, 52 B3B w/330 Desoto Hemi, 70 Hemi RR (under const)
Past Mopars
9 x Challengers. AAR Cuda, 4 RR, 2 GTX, 4 Chargers, etc... (too many to list)

I don't see any of these ramps eliminating it, just making it maybe not as bad. Only sure way is to solve it put the car on jack stands and let the tires hang.

IMO, its part of the price of owning a performance vehicle. Sure the first few miles may be a bit less smooth, but after that it should be gone. Even with that, none of the radials I've used have ever been as bad as the old bias plys that would literally bounce the car if all the flat spots were in sync.

The flat spotting comes from the memory of nylon layers.  The nylon is only on speed rated tires. Polyglas do not have nylon belting.  Older tires would have nylon belting. Speed rated tires have a nylon catch layer if things come apart.
