Winter Projects

Alright  fellas, the temps up here in the Great White North are dropping and it looks like we might only have a few more opportunities to pull the classics out for a drive.

So what do you guys in the snowy places have planned for winter projects.

I have few in the works.

Project 1

install the magnum manifolds I pulled of a wrecked truck earlier in the year and install a factory style exhaust.

I have most of the parts for this, including new engine mounts to help the manifolds fit.

I will need to connect the manifolds back to the sock style exhaust, but I am sure there is an exhaust shop close that can hook me up (pun intended) 
 
Project 2

Install the 70 lower grill insert, and some new headlights with integrated turn signals. 

Again have the parts just need to fix the insert and paint same and the figure our what needs to be done to install the headlights.

Project 3

Quick one, replace the glass in my slap stik shifter.  Although I will try to fix my console while its out, its snapped in the usual spot (around the shifter).

Project 4

I may try to reroute the transmission lines back to the factory cooler and remove the aftermarket trans cooler from in front of the rad.  I think that is part of the reason my car runs at 210 - 220 most of the time on the highway.  Also going with a 5 blade clutch fan (if it fits the shroud) for the aftermarket fixed fan (hopefully the combination for the two cools things down).

Project 5

I want to refinish my driveshaft...which is a lovely color of rust right now.  I saw a great way to soak it in Vinegar in a resto thread.

Other than that maybe a few small things if I am looking for something to fill my time, but nothing major.

I hate the winter, but love the time to work on the car.

Project 1 and only.

Pull 318 engine, scrape off all undercoating in engine bay, take off side body molding and weld up all the holes, pull up carpet and put down insulation, change vinyl top from green to black, change to a Rallye hood, drop a completed 340 in, and finally once it gets warm enough again paint the exterior to FF4

Plans for me involve the convertible . . . Hardtop is going to storage . . .

1)  First I bought all new glass for the sides of the car . .  Current stuff does not have the proper curve so doesn't seal correctly.
2) Install aftermarket temp gauge
3) I would like to swap out the standard dash for a rallye but not sure I'm going to get that done.
4) Thinking about some new carpeting as it appears that having the top down will fade the carpet faster than normal. 
5) Detail work to be completed.   Restoration is starting to show some age .   

Also I am working on an 8 3/4 that I want to install in the hardtop and pull out the dana . . . That may take some effort .  ..

Any car projects need to be finished up before the snow falls. Before I started working on the car again, I made two night stands and a headboard for the master bedroom. I designed and cut all the pieces for two dressers but never got around to assembling them. Need to get those done.

May sound cheap but I got 15 years out of my last carpet in my vert... Every couple years I would spray dye the carpet...  Do NOT get close with the spray can or the carpet will be a matted mess...  Stay back 14"-20" & just lightly mist a few coats on the carpet.... After a couple hours use a stiff bristle brush to quickly brush out any stiffness that the dye may have caused....

Oh, and my car probably sees a lot more sun than your car.... Poke poke....

I bought a twin turbo Stealth with a hooped engine. I'll start on it in about two weeks. I expect it will be an ugly job as they're complicated and not a lot of room to work under the hood. I'm planning to drop everything out the bottom (classic Mopar style) and do the re and re on the floor. Hopefully have it done by the end of November.

my winter plans are to remove my 6bbl setup and replace it with a 6bbl Fuel Injection set up from F&B.  Then I have to update the fuel system too.  I will look into moving my AC compressor to the area below my alternator and see if I can set up a serpentine belt.  Tuning will have to wait until spring. 

None of it gets done until I get my hands healed up.  I blew out some ligaments in my ring finger on my right hand while riding mountain bike in colorado this past august.  A few weeks later, I accidentally ran a 1/4" drill bit through my left thumb joint when it broke while drilling a piece of stainless steel.  The ligaments are gone and my thumb tip is unstable.  Now both finger and thumb are splinted until mid december or longer.  Muscle atrophy has set in where I used to have muscle on my thumb.  PT/OT to follow.  I hope to include turning wrenches as therapy as soon as I can get some use out of my digits.  Screwed up fingers on both hands is not cool.

Still working on my F&B system on Challenger and will eventually get to the one in my Cuda..

Finish the r&p install on my 68 Mustang so I can get reacquainted with fuel injection for Challenger.

Oh and drive to some snow a few times.

Hopefully when we get back from Mexico end of march I can finally once and for all finish the challenger

1. Pull the chunk out of the 8 3/4 and rebuild.
2. Find and fix the trans leak.
3. New tie rod ends, pitman and idler arms
4. Rally gauge cluster (I hope)
5. And then maybe...Vintage A/C

Restore the steering column.
Remove gauge cluster and send away for tune-up. Clock doesn't work, tach is inaccurate and this summer the speedometer acted up for a bit so I'll have that checked out too.
Replace dash bezels.
Finish restoring the heater control plate that I took out two years ago.
Restore or replace trunk and rear quarter trim.
Replace antenna and mounting hardware.
Do a little detailing in the engine bay.

Rebuild the 8 3/4 third member....
or buy a replacement...
or buy a whole new rear end...

My winter project is getting the shop finished up.  For the first time in over 25 years I don't own a project car!! Sold everything I own except our two daily drivers and the 2015 Challenger.  It is the first time since high school, or late 1980's, that I only have 3 vehicles!
