Power trunk Latch ??
« on: October 30, 2016 - 01:27:58 PM »
Want to add a power trunk latch to my Challenger. I remember using ones off of like Cordobas and  76 chargers that bolt on the same but have a black cover on the lower part with a wire sticking out. Does anyone have one of those latches or know where I can get one?
Thanks , Keith

Ebay has lots of them.  This is one example that has everything.  You can find sellers that sell the latch only, some sell with wires and switches.  But this is the type of latch that will work.

looks like I ended up with a NOS latch and wire. Auction said reserve wasn't met, but when it ended, I won.. Strange, but oh well..

The NOS item has good pics of the wiring diagram, and the fusible link from the switch to the fuse block.  Should be easy enough to do your own wiring should you just have the latch alone.

Well didn't get it. Said I won the auction. Sent a pay pal invoice. I paid and  was refunded my money the next day ?? Not sure what happened . Stupid explanation :
"Sorry we have to refund your money on this item. I listed and sold it for my uncle. Please contact (call or text) him at 734-658-5841 with any questions. Sorry for the inconvenience"
So now looking again. If anyone has one to sell, Let Me Know..
Thanks , Keith

I assume you tried the dealer and they are no longer available? Sometimes you'd be surprised what's still available.

I had these latches on my Barracuda before I took it apart, on the hood and trunk. I grabbed them for a couple bucks each at the pick-n-pull junkyard.

Wiring is easy, just supply 12v to the wire lead, the solenoid is grounded through the latch chassis, to the car, via the mounting bolts.

Pretty decent listing here that includes everything.

The listing says it will not work with a key lock on cudas?

I don't think it's a bolt-in if you want to keep the key. If I remember correctly, the factory 'Cuda trunk latch has a tab off of it for the linkage, whereas the power latch has a slot for a typical straight-on key actuation.

I think the power latch can be made to work with the 'Cuda trunk lock, or vise-versa, but it's not a drop-in.

The OP was looking for the latch for a Challenger.  Although, there is a way to make it work for a Cuda.  Little extra work, but it is doable for power and key.  There is a posting on one of the forums how someone did it for his Cuda.  I have all the pieces for my Cuda, just have not installed yet.
