Harness for 70 Cuda AC setup used for a standard heater
« on: October 31, 2016 - 01:59:03 PM »

Guys

I am throwing this out there because I don't know if it can be done but.... I have an AC dash harness which I used cause it's in fairly good shape and I wanted to remove the A/C.

The question is - Can I use an A/C dash harness for a standard heater setup? I believe so as the connectors are the same but right now the way I have it hooked up I don't hear the fan come on when I flip the switch. I will try to get pics of how it's connected by tonite.

Thanks,
B

Your car will have both the standard heater wiring and the additional AC wiring harness. The standard wire harness, instead of plugging into the heater box, it plugs in the the AC harness. If you now have a non AC heater box you can easily remove the AC wire harness from the main harness, it's totally separate :2cents:

That's exactly what I thought so I'll have to figure out the connectors.

Basically I am not using the red connectors and round plugs which would have gone to the A/C.

You can see in the background the almost pink wires to the left are not being used.

See the grey connector dead center of your picture....That should unplug there and the grey connector will plug into a nearby black connector with  I believe a black wire with a tracer...That's where the AC harness gets it's power from. If you remove those two wires the two left in the main harness have to be plugged back together.

Thanks Alan

I think we are getting somewhere. Now with this pic I'm sure you can point out the problem.

"That should unplug there and the grey connector will plug into a nearby black connector with  I believe a black wire with a tracer"

Are you talking about the connector with the black wire and the other connector with the tan wires in the pic above? It doesn't seem like they can connect somewhere else?

In your last picture you still have the AC harness in place. You should be able to unplug both circled connections and plug the two remaining ones together and remove the AC harness.

It looks like the harness has been re-taped so the separate A/C harness is tightly taped to the main harness.... As Alan stated unplug the add-on harness & plug the power feed back together & you should be good..

So that's why I'm not seeing it. It's wrapped together.

Found what an AC harness should look like.

I think I get it. Will both the black and grey connectors reach each other?

Well now that makes sense why it doesn't work.

Guess I will have to entice my very short friend down to get up in there and swap connections.

Thanks guys!!!!

Even with pulling the front seats I cannot shorten my arms to get to the places I need to.

Last time he came down and helped me, he was done in 3 mins - lil bastard!!!
