For those following along builds. One thing i knew I had to do was to purchase all the wear/Miscellaneous parts. I guess I just didn't think how much it would add up to. Add this part lists to your budget if your building from the ground up.

I did end up going with the Mahle flat top pistons. I may be sorry, time will tell in the dyno numbers. I can't find a engine dyno locally, just chassis dyno, so we will have to make a guess of where it's at, at the fly wheel.

I stopped by the shop. He had the rotating assembly balanced perfectly to 0. He put a piece of duct tape on the crank to show me how precise the machine is. Spun the crank and the machine was able to pick up the weight of the tape. Pretty neat. My mechanic said lots of machine shops will balance within a tolerance and it's rare to find somebody who will get it to 0 instead of 1 gram or so. I'm going to have him assemble the short block for me as I don't want to mess anything up. From there we can bolt on whats left.

I pulled my stall converter last night as my builder said he can call comp cams and the head guy will get us a custom grind based on my specs. I have a 3000 stall, 3.23 gears, and need to send him tire height. Also since I want to use FiTech EFI, it may be different from somebody going Carb for vacuum purposes. Going with a roller set up.

After that I need to settle in on my Heads (CNCed of some sort) Order up the FiTech, some roller rockers/pushrods and we're done. Can't wait to have my car on the road, and for better or worse I'll post the build sheet for others to model or stay away from after we see the numbers haha. Either way my car made 250HP and 308 tq to the wheels before, so it should be a drastic improvement, and hopefully with EFI, I don't have to tune it every 3 months.

Accurate balance is nice but honestly when the engine is running theres oil attaching itself to parts & that oil can throw the balance off easily... Seriously aftermarket pistons & rods take between 6-10 lbs off the rotating assembly, thats somewhere between 2700 & 4500 grams... That matters, a gram or two .. Not so much...

I think the first questions of this build should have been directed at PSYCHO, he would have gave you all the info needed to get your desired numbers.I also think the 3:23 is a poor choice for any decent sized cam to make power and cruise at the sweet spot rpm,3:55 min I would say. That said I am considering an FITECH efi too and can't wait to hear how yours runs! :canada: :canada: :canada: :canada:

Some updates before I install the engine we have some cosmetic things to do.

Sort of a before picture. Plan on sanding down the engine bay this week and paint it black prior to engine install. Can see the driver side inner fender is rough shape.

Inner fender was rusted were the battery was. We're relocating battery to the trunk.

Removed outer Fender, took out the spot welds and got ride of the junk inner fender.

Aftermarket inner fender is welded back in with a test fit of the outer fender. Everything seems to line up.

Moved MSD into the passenger side floor. I'd like to reduce wires in the engine bay and try to dress it up in time. (chrome brake booster etc). And yes I know this will be in view, but I don't care that much. It's easy to get to, and plug a computer in. This is not a show car by any means. I did however find the original fender tag when I pulled the carpet up. The vin says it's a 340 car originally, so I look forward to matching up the fender tag. I'll post it this weekend and see if you all can help me decode it.

This weekend we hope to get the bay painted, tie rods/idler arm/pitman arm replaced. I tried calling firm feel since the steering box is right there and accessible, but the earliest I can get a box is in 2 weekends and I don't want to wait that long. I did order some new upper control arms from them and will slap them in next week. Should assist with the steering.

Here is the engine. The build specs should be prior in the thread. Heads and intake came out nice - CNCed RPM heads, Port matched single plane intake, topping it off with a AED 1050 carb. I still have my dual plane intake, but being a BB Stroker it should have plenty of grunt down low, so this should up my HP in the top end as long as the heads flow. I don't like those valve covers so I ordered some fabricated flat black mopar ones from jegs. Going to wait until the engine is in to install them so I don't scratch em. It has a comp roller set up with a mild cam. 1.5 comp rockers. I'd need to dig the specs out from my receipts to see what grind it is. The cam was originally specked to hold vacuums for EFI, which I plan to do eventually. However between new hood hinges, radiator, mounts, nuts bolts, misc fixes as we find them and other projects, I thought I'd hold off.

Overall I'm pleased with how everything is coming together. Lots of work and time, but will be great to get it back on the road. Our goal is to get the engine in the bay Sunday, then from there I can spend some nights after work getting it all bolted in. Hopefully we have some videos of it running in the next 10-15 days.

Another pic for anyone following along. Was a long weekend troubleshooting things. My Headman Headers were a very tight fit with spark plugs on these eddy heads. We had to undo the header from the block and the exhaust pipe flange to get number 6 plug to fit. Even a shorty plug was hitting the header with the angle that it was at. I guess next time I see an "*" on the edelbrock site that says "call TTI for proper header fitment" I should do it!

Chased a lot of small issues around, some of them consisted of getting the MSD Box to spark. It appears finding a Key on/Cranking power is harder than I thought when you remove the old ballast resister. Finally we just rigged it to a toggle switch just so we could hear it. She finally roared to life late last night at 7:35pm. I hope it has a long life ahead of it. Only did some quarter throttle hits as we don't have the radiator plumbed in yet. It revs fast. This is going to be a bear on the street. Now we have to button up the radiator, see why the battery isn't charging (moved it to the trunk), get the fender back on, and give her some test miles.

One other snag is there is no way my hood is fitting with the victor intake. My original thought was that I won't need the down low trq of my dual plane being a fast revving stroker Didn't even think of hood clearance. My options are a new carbon fiber hood with more room. Cut up my original and modify it to fit. Or bite the bullet on the victor, and put my dual plane back on. I had this one port matched to fit the heads, so I'd at least like to see how it performs at the dyno. then Maybe do a quick swap to the dual plane and see what the difference is, then make a decision. Out of curiosity how hard is it to paint match a new hood to a faded black car? Can a professional make that happen? I'm also thinking of a black air cleaner to match the valve covers? Thoughts?

Yes I know the alternator is terrible looking. Hopefully it's bad so I can buy a cleaner looking one!

Do you have any clearance issues with those valve covers and the distributor cap? I bought a set that look similar and they don't clear...

My engine is the same color scheme - I went with a black air cleaner.

Also, I put my breather on the drivers side and pcv on the passengers side valve cover. Shorter length of hose to run and out of the way  :2cents:

The VC's went right in. I waited until the end to install so I wasn't banging on them with tools. My MSD cap fits nicely. Good suggestion on the PCV Valve. I have to measure the grommet and see what size will fit in it.

just read this back from the start,I don't recall reading that anyone suggested the rpm heads or that intake,I read that the rpm intake and holley intake were the best for hood clearance. How about a 6 pack hood?

That manifold is over kill Performer RPM would be better.

You're correct. I had a lot of sound advice on the forum, and my build was no where near what was suggested. At the end of the day if I could pay Chryco or some other experienced members to build this for me I would have in a heart beat. The reality is, I'm having a engine built that I"m going to beat the crap out of. Should something go wrong or fail, I'd rather have it be something that my engine builder specd. That way he can't blame my part list for the failure, and he's more likely to tear it down and stand by his work. It's my version of a warranty. Yes I sacrificed some of the combined knowledge here, but I have an engine that should something go wrong, he can only blame himself. And when something this precise and high HP is being built I feel better with that.

That manifold is over kill Performer RPM would be better.

Perhaps it is. But it's what I have. It was port matched to the heads so I'm going to give it a go for now. Once my builders chassis dyno is repaired I'll put it on there and run it. If the combination is not worth the trouble then I'll change it. Intakes are cheap comparatively. I still have my old dual plane performer to test as well and see the difference.

This combination is about a half inch too tall. I put my original hood in a safe spot and bought a rough one on CL, wire brushed the rust off it, spray painted it, and made it fit. At this point I just want to drive it and enjoy it. I recently put tubular uppers and lower control arms, QA1 shocks, adjustable strut mounts, and firm feel steering box. I'm very happy with the car. I don't know what it produces power wise yet, but there hasn't been a single person that isn't impressed by the build (except maybe a few on this forum). If nothing else others can read this and confirm combinations to use/stay away from. I don't know what it produces power wise yet, so I can't comment on it, but with 3:23s I can melt the tires off at 40mph in second gear and I'm having a lot of fun when a charger/challenger or GT rolls next to me revving their engine while rolling next to me at 40 and then I can do the above scenario.. Street slicks will be my next purchase so I can actually hook up.
