that's great glad your happy I had a quick look through the posts again just wondering what cam are  your running please and any videos of it idling or driving

The grind that I used is a comp cams XR286HR-10. I don't have videos of it idling at the moment. The only one I have I"m hesitant to post as I was meeting my buddy at a gravel pit where they were shooting some truck footage for their sales website to get some "working man" photos. I thought it would be fun to get some still shots of the car and some gravel flying behind it. So while they snapped some high res action shots, my friend grabbed some iPhone footage and sent it to me. I know I'll be judged on this forum, but just remember, the hood is not original to the car (it's the first thing people ask when they see my quick cut out), and although the rest of it looks great from afar, it's far from good, which is why I don't mind driving the hell out of it. Someday I'll do body work, but not anytime soon.

When you relocate the battery use a sealed non spill one I've used yellow top Optima batteries (they say you can even mount these upside down) on a few I've done including my daily driver another thing I do is to use arc welder hand piece cable instead of the auto parts store battery cable seems to work better (less volt drop, the cable doesn't get hot and the insulation is thicker) you can pick it up from a welding supply store for about the same price as the normal cable.

Thanks for the heads up. My battery is relocated. Again, another thing I don't know if I want to share haha. I made a custom mounting bracket in the truck with my old pistons holding the battery in. I figured if I ever wanted to make the car show quality I'd need to re-floor the trunk so I wasn't too concerned with making a custom touch. I used some really thick, high end 0 gauge wire. Cost a fortune to run it to the hood, but I'll never have to worry about it. I've read about the welding wire, but I wanted something a bit more flexible to snake it through the car. Appreciate the reply however!

thanks for responding don't worry about what other people think hey , run your own race I learnt that  years ago your car sounds and looks great be proud my friend sounds like your happy with that cam as well you picked im building a 493 stroker and just trying to work out the best cam that's all I know yours is a 512 which is bigger but good point of reference as you have same rear end ratio as me and you said it frys tyres off the line so yeah the bigger cube engines don't need a 3.55 or deeper gear then  with a not to big cam that's great I do a lot of highway driving that's all and not looking for race car just a stop light racer that's me lol with a nice lump and strong midrange , just googled your cam says 3.9 gears and you have 3.23 and your happy with the take off and low range power so that's good I just leant something new cool , if you had 3.9 would probley wheel spin to much hey off the line ???

Our thought was this many cubes will not need any extra low end from a take off. Like I said. until I get street slicks 1st gear is useless unless you slowly feather it in. I'll look into a gear venders overdrive too at some point. It runs over 3000 RPMs on the highway having only 3 gears.

must be pretty happy with it then I cant wait to finish my little 493 that's gonna be heaps for the street and talking to you now im not going to change my rear gears now im running a 4 speed should be fun on the street lol , that's why im looking at cams that make good mid range to alittle higher upper rpm sounds like strokers have enough power up to 3000rpm without much help , your cam specs say 3000 to 6500 rpm do you think its starts pulling around 2500 rpm , nice choice if I was going roller that would be a good fit for my engine

Just an update. Finally got the car to the Dyno. It's been a long journey on this build and a lot of the great advice here I didn't adhere to as my builder had a different mind set. As I stated before if Chyco could build it, and stand by the work and parts list I'd love to do it. Instead I wanted my builder to not blame any of my parts for failures down the road and stand by his work. Which he has done. (I had a comp cams rocker fail on me a few times and he was more than happy to stand by it and fix it. the pushrod came out of the seat a on a few occasions).

Some other things that came true as predicted by most. The Edelbrock heads even CNCed are a limiting factor. With that said based on my power numbers and potential for piston speeds to get excessive over 5500 RPMs I'm still happy with how everything turned out. It made 475 wheel hp at 5300RPM and 480tq at 4800rpm. So taking into account drive train loss of 22% (I've read that the TQ flight eats more than that) but 22% is conservative and that puts me around 600 crank hp which I'm pleased with. That is also 32 degrees timing. They think we can bump it to 36 and get it to 500hp, but wasn't worth the risk at getting some poor fuel for the power gains. Down the road if I ever make it strictly a hot street car I can change out the cam and likely get some more out of it. I just put some Nitto NT555's on it, and now it grabs in first gear which is great! Thats the end of my journey. Just another way to skin the cat. With a higher $ top end, I think you would quickly find the limits of the old big block as you start to move the power curve up the RPM band. I hope this combination lives a long life with a rev limiter at 5800 rpms.

Yes they're pro magnum. Comp 1621-16. Seems to be good now. Then again my girl has been parked for a few weeks. Now that I put sticky tires on it (Nitto NT555?) she hooks up and goes. The downside is I torched my rear yoke and u joint. It was a 10 spline. I have a new one on order from Muninci (sp) racing. It's combination version which should allow me to step up to a larger u joint. If this fails then a new drive shaft will be in short order.
