Well, here goes nothing.
« on: November 01, 2016 - 03:48:42 PM »
Okay all some of y'all have gotten familiar with me on here. For those that haven't I bought a triple green '73 Challenger at Mecum last year. The time has come for me to try my hand at my first resto, even though it's a small one, I'm going to need all the help I can get from y'all on here. On the list is.
340 swap
Get 904 tran rebuilt
New vinyl roof
Fix crack in dash
Repaint
Remove body side molding
Put on Rallye hood
Update some wiring and add a bloothooth amp in the rear.

I'm sure there will be more

So I bit the bullet and went for where the problem spot may be, original vinyl top. I had a leak coming in the trunk when washing the car so I expected the worst. Doesn't look to bad

This is where the leak was coming from which lead me to biting the bullet on this resto.... common wisdom is the Dutchman panel but as you can see it's solid but does have surface rust, so I'm stumped as to where water was getting in at. Kind of thinking all I needed was a new weather strip around the trunk?!?!?!

I had about the same size hole where the Dutchman panel and quarter were put together. Ended up with water in the trunk. I've also seen many with rust holes around the rear window under the stainless trim where water gets into trunk.

There should be rubber seals around each clip that holds the vinyl top trim.  If that seal is dried out, you could have a leak through those trim holes.

I thought it was a hole too but it's actually solid there, just a little indent

Not those pins...the clips that go through into the trunk. Your showing a hole for a trim clip right by your leak.

Ah, Yeah it pulled up when I pulled the trim. It was sealed lol that would've made to much sense on how I was getting water.

Wasn't much, just when I was washing it. Maybe a quarter cup if that.

That was under the rear seat.... I also found one under the drivers seat (it wasn't in such good of shape)
