PS hose leak
« on: November 05, 2016 - 07:02:51 PM »
Been slowly breaking in my new built motor. Drove the car for about 25 miles now. Brand new rebuilt ps box, used the original hoses as they looked to be in good condition. At the end of today's drive, when turning the wheel full rotation it felt kind of clunky at the end of the rotation. Noticed the hose going to the top of the ps box is leaking.

Is this common? Going to try to reseat it and tighten but not sure why it just gave way all of a sudden. Should I just replace the hose? It's the only part not new.

The high pressure hose is built for higher pressure and hydraulic fluid.
Those are pretty easy to find at any auto part store.
340 version is a difficult one to find I recall.

the OEM reproduction return line is horrible.
It gets spongy and then it will eventually start leaking.

Go to the auto part store and ask for a return hose that is meant for hydraulic fluid.

Is it the hose that slips on the fitting and is attached by clamps?  If so that is the low pressure return hose.  Get 11/32 inner diameter.  If you get 3/8 its a bit loose.  I had one of those reproduction return hoses, and yes those get spongy and slip off.  Don't waste money on them.  Chrysler dealer should have 11/32 if you can't find them at a parts house.
High pressure hose is screwed on the pump and gearbox.
