1974 challenger project

Okay so we finally are getting nice weather and was able to work on the car. Firewall is completely out, drivers side floor pan is out, final measurements then trim for new pan, was able to expose the frame where I knew it was bad, torsion bar cross member is rusted where the front frame rail joins, front frame rail in this spot as well, what would be better to do, replace the torsion bar cross member and repair the front frame rail, replacing both, or repairing both, would have to weld braces in this area for support while this is going on, does anyone have pictures of this, so I can get an idea. What thickness of metal would I use for the frame repairs?

Hey, another 74 Challenger with the exact same exterior/interior color as mine! I started on the rear sections first and found a pile of rust everywhere. Hopefully this fall I'll be able to kick the dust off my build and get back at it. Best of luck with yours!

All 74s are all in close with each other.
Very low numbers when they killed production mid year.

Hey daaboots, I was just wondering yesterday about your project, haven't seen any new posts about yours on here or new videos on u tube, yes I'm finding rust every where too but its to be expected, nice weather is here and time to get back at it, I think I have all the sheet metal that I need now, unless and probably find more.

Well a little update on the progress of the car, couple of weeks ago went and bought a 1973 340 with x heads, edelbrock torquer intake, bought a quick fuel 750, vacuum secondary carb, bought headers, full stainless exhaust with x pipe. Now for the work,  frame is patched, drivers side floor pan is fitted and welded in, drivers side rocker fixed, firewall filler panels welded in, now onto the firewall lower cowl, does anyone have measurements for the firewall to rad support, we had a bad storm and had a little mishap with the shed and lost a few things and my measurements just happens to be one of them. Measured so many times all ready at what I think are the right measurements but want to make sure before going any further. Pictures will follow shortly.

Yeah haven't touched it in over a year now. I'm hoping that if I can finish my garage addition this summer that I'll get back to the car this fall.

Yeah it's funny how stuff get in the way all the time, or inspiration gets lost for a while... Don't know when I will get to my -73, but at least I bought a 5.7 Hemi and a restored a833 tranny for it. Looking forward to your videos daaboots, gives me inspiration!

Since this about a 74 Challenger I thought I would share this; back around 79 my best friend had a 74 Challenger, 360 4 spd, yellow with black interior (I loved that car). We raced it, rebuilt a 340 for it, painted it (despite it being perfect), etc. However what I wanted to share is that during all this, at one point we pulled the seats (the car had something like 11,000 miles on it when my buddy got it from the first owner). We also pulled up the carpet and underneath we found 2 items; a spare set of keys for the car and a sticker that said "Rallye". We could not figure out where the sticker came from but we were/are pretty sure we were the first guys to pull the carpet since the car was made, so where did the sticker come from and why was it there? I sent this info to some of the famous Mopar writers (Ebugger and Galen) and both immediately replied it was impossible and essentially said I was lying.. I know what I saw and the circumstances around it. We believe the car actually came from Canada, so we were thinking it might have been some idea of adding "Rallye" to Canadian models as GM had Rallye Camaros at the time in the US.

I had a picture somewhere of that sticker but at the moment I don't know where it is, if I find it I will post it. Just thought someone here might find it interesting. Here is a pic of the car.

Good story, hope someone has some clarification on that, I also found a spare set of keys, on a Camaro key chain, lets just say I kept the keys, found all kinds of new screws under the carpet, found a spent 44 magnum shell in the trunk ,I also found a 1974 Canadian quarter under the carpet as well. The 1973 that I had I also found a bunch of pills, not sure what they were but used a vacuum cleaner to get rid of them, never know what you will find.

Hmmm
Makes me wonder now what may be lurking in mine. I am 2nd owner of a 74 and have had it for over 35 years. Carpet is all original and to my knowledge has never been out.
