    3" Exhaust Systems

    Who is running a 3" exhaust system on their 'Cuda 340?  Any issues?

    Why would you run a 3" exhaust on a 340?   2.5" is overkill.... Clearances start getting pretty tight around the rear axle especially if your running a rear sway bar...

    Just build a 512.. Then the 3" is justified... :thumbsup: :icon16:

    I'm running a 3" oval X side exit set-up with spin tech muffs on a 360/tti headers.  Sounds good.   Probably a bit much for an A engine,But that's gonna change.  The 3" tti tail pipes fit great on the charger 383 FWIW.   Maybe you can do an exchange?  Might be worth the hassle.   :dunno:

    Yes.  I am going to investigate returning the system.  I know I will have to pay return fees, but I don't want this project to go wrong.

    What is your engine set up?

    Mild cam? Stroked?

    Did you consider running 340 exhaust manifolds?
    They are available in reproduction again.

    Accurate Exhaust sells the correct pipes for them too.

    In the end, you'll be happier running manifolds.
    Header to ground clearance weren't very good on E Bodies.
    Heat from headers takes a toll on parts in the engine compartment as well.

    WHAT?!?! When did they go back into repo? Who makes them??? Probably cheaper then what I bought my originals for.  :pullinghair:

    Mild build.  Stock appearance.
    I have made arrangements to return the 3" system.

    Thanks to everyone for the input and keeping me out of trouble.

    I'm running a TTI 3" exhaust on my 340/416 stroker.  No fitment issues and it does not hang down too low.  I bought this system about 8 years ago thinking that I was going to be building a street/strip car with a good amount of horsepower so that is why I went with 3".  Since then my plans changed and I restored the car to a nice driver with no track plans so the 3" system is now overkill.  I say this because the stroker motor never received the additional mods that I had planned for it for extra HP (i.e. better flowing heads, bigger cam).  If I had to go back and do it all again I would have just gone 2.5".  As has already been mentioned 2.5" is overkill for a 340. 

    Nevertheless the 416 stroker with the MP purple 484 cam, 3" exhaust, and flow masters 40 does sound pretty mean.  :burnout:

    Does TTI offer anythiing smaller than 2.5 inch.  I haven't seen anything.  Seems like they would know if it was ok or not.

    2.5" exhaust would be just fine with a 340.  TTI exhaust systems are very nice and they fit really well (even 3"), the only down side is they are not cheap.  Nevertheless I still recommend them.

    So not to distract or rail the op, a 408, W2 head with big valves, EFI, intake ports flowing 330 at 650, 264@.050, 650 lift cam with 1,7/8"into 3,1/2 collectors from TTI. I'm thinking a 2,1/2" magnaflow with X pipe may be a little small? Maybe I need 3" to and including the mufflers and leave the 2,1/2" from mufflers back? Thoughts?
