Price of A Cuda
« on: November 26, 2016 - 10:37:55 PM »
Anyone notice that the price of a Cuda is going up? I don't mean numbers matching cars either. I mean a clone car be it a 70 to 74? The prices on eBay are crazy. Whether these cars are selling, who knows? Wasn't long ago that we were all saying that the market would never come back. Most of us were of the opinion that we didn't care and planned to keep our cars forever. Anyway, seems the money is up on anything cloned in good taste with big power :dunno:

I noticed that also. The price of parts is way up also, so if the parts go up it makes since that the cars would go up also.
A lot of people restore these cars and don't realize what it costs.
I still don't think they are selling for what the asking price is, but dosent hurt to try.

eBay and asking prices are fairly meaningless as people can ask whatever they want for a car, unless someone pays the price, you haven't determined a value.
I'm more of a Challenger guy, don't bite my head off, I like cudas too!  But I haven't seen Challenger prices being super strong in recent years.  I've pretty much resigned myself there isn't much of a market for my 4 speed V code Challenger now days for example.  Cudas do seem more popular and bring higher prices I'd say based on my watching the market, but regardless, it still isn't 2006 for any Mopar values.

I don't know. In 2006 I sold a v code cuda for 81 grand to a guy in New York. That car will sell for over 130 today. I paid 46 for the car in 2004. If we're talking numbers cars. The car was totally restored shaker with a 4 spd. B5 inside and putside. But I'm talking clones now not numbered cars.

My V code might have got near 100K 10 years ago.  I'd probably let it go for low 70s now but have had very little interest even though I've advertised it various places, and had it on eBay in June with not even one ebayer asking me a question about it let alone any bids.
One impression I've gotten about the market in recent times is that there are a handful of collectors out there with seemingly unlimited amounts of money who will pay huge dollars for the right car.  So a #s car with a desirable color, good documentation, and Galen Goviers DNA rubbed into the interior will sell quickly for record amounts of money, whereas a similar car, not #s, not a high impact color, not as well documented will sit on the market with a price much less than what that other sold for, yet still not sell.
I haven't watched clones closely but I'll try to pay more attention in the upcoming auctions and see what they are selling for.
I think the prices reflect the situation in the economy, where some people are getting rich while the middle class is still struggling and never recovered fully from the economic collapse in 2008.

I'm not sure about these cars actually selling either, but in my 5 yrs of owning one and I've been watching them for 10 yrs I'd say the market has been strong and steady. Still not going to find a "cheap" running and driving vert or a well done clone. As for pedigree cars, they also seem as strong as ever. Simple fact is they didn't make too many of them, and they seem to be as desirable as ever. I thought when the new challenger came out it would hurt the value of the old e-body's, but that is not the case.

whenever a new style with the old name is built, it generates interest in the old generations (the Charger is an exception .... but that is on Dodge for making it a 4dr instead of a 2dr like the original). folks like nostalgia and new styling helps revive old loves and create new ones with the newer generation of car lovers.

I've seen them go up and down over the decades. I'm going to wait a bit before buying.

Another reason I believe is that a Cuda is more expensive to clone VS a Challenger RT equivalent.  Roadlamps, gills, rubber bumpers, shaker (for hemi) and other trim add up.  Am I wrong about this?  Rallye dash and a few trim pieces for the 70 Chally right?
I guess I'm one of the guys that would rather have a challenger/charger than my vert Cuda clone/tribute.  I just don't like convertibles after all.  My car has been off the market after the motor swallowed a carb stud last year (finally done :swear:$$$).  I was asking a pretty penny for it but justified it based on all of the $ and cuda parts put in to make it a driver.  Yes, money invested doesn't equate to value always but you certainly can't build it for the asking price.

If a car came up that was built with what I wanted in the right color then it would be worth paying more than the value assessed by others :2cents:.
