Rad Fan question

Greetings all,  I hope I have this in the right section, but here is my question.   I have a 1973 "Cuda 340.   PO installed a flex fan with extension.  (currently I have no shroud)   I want to get the repro 7 blade fan that is sold by Roseville parts.   The problem is that it says that the fan is for vehicles with a clutch fan.   Will this fan fit my set up without the clutch?  Will it bolt to the existing fan spacer or do I need to by the clutch also.

As always, I appreciate your input.

Yes you can get a fan that will bolt on with or with out a clutch.  If you live in a warm climate you may want to install the clutch.  As for the spacer, you will need to measure to fit.  You should get the shroud too.  Dave at Roseville has this set up for sale as well and offers members a discount.

Hey Dfrazz, thanks for the quick reply.   Yes I live in a very warm climate, Houston, texas.   But right now, I'm just trying to assemble parts and will work toward a shroud and original rad.  I really don't like that flex fan.    Been having cooling issues due the large space between the fan and rad.   I purchased an after market 3 row aluminum rad  and run a 160 thermostat.   Going down the road, its cool as a cumber, but get stopped at a long light.....................ohhhhhhhhhhhhh  not good.  I'm going to try adding an extension to bring the fan within an inch of the rad to see it that will help for the time being.  Hate to drop cash on another new rad that will accept the original shroud right now.    Again thanks for the quick replay.

I, too, live in Houston.  After having fought through several heating issues, I found the best is to throw away the electric fan and it's choking "shroud" and go with the 7- blade fan and fan clutch.  I run nice and cool throughout the humid summer months...and that's with a 22" radiator and a stroked 360 (426" Hughes rotating assy).  Even runs cool at the drag strip!

Okay...you lost me...How the heck are you going to mount that fan without a fan clutch ? :clueless:

By the way...you can get a clutch for about $35-$50 bucks at NAPA or even Summit Racing.  :2cents:

Fans designed for use with a clutch use a different bolt pttern so yes you need a clutch , this will make the fan more efficient too . Flex-A-Lite has 18" 6 blade fans that work just as well

If you need a shorter clutch for more clearance the Jaguar unit is an option .

Installing the shroud will help greatly as it will direct airflow through the rad where with no shroud air gets pulled from all directions around the fan

Hayden makes a long and short version of their clutches. Part no. 2707 is 3.59 inches and 2747 is 3.34 inches.

Sorry, I misread his post.  You can get a fan that does not need a clutch if you do not want a clutch, but yes the fan that says you need a clutch requires a clutch.

Use a fan clutch spacer, and extended hardware to thread into the water pump hub. Direct drive, and that som***** will howl at speed.
