I find that the members of these boards never get to converse face to face too often so the only real individual thing you have is your board name. People get familiar with it and it goes from there. To change your name is to alter your known identity. And those that really know you will just do a mental translation from your new name to the old one anyway. Unless you're going into the witness relocation program, why bother?
