When mine was just a lowly 318 auto needing a restoration, I would have let anyone drive it....but sadly no one asked.  Now that its a 440 4 speed and almost complete.....the only person who get to drive it  is me?  Okay and maybe my brother if he asked.  My wife a daughter would like to drive it, but the 4sp and horse power keeps them for asking.

I still feel badly about a situation that happened with my late father around 4 years ago.  He'd been driving Dodge Caravans for a number of years, since 86 or 87 actually, and his latest one was getting a little long in the tooth and he wanted to replace it.  He apparently was having a bit of "old life crisis" and was toying with the idea of getting a "muscle car" instead of another van.  And he liked the new Challengers, which was cool.
I bought a B5 Challenger classic R/T new in '09.  It is garage kept, not driven winters, and I don't drive it if there is a good chance of rain.  Also, if I stop at a store or drive it to work, I park away from other cars.  To this day no dings or scratches other than a chip or 2 on the front bumper from road rash.  It's my second car, and yes I baby it! It has just under 25,000 miles now, I drive it around 3000 miles a year in nice weather, mostly on weekends.
So one day my dad asks me if he can borrow it for a few days to try it out for size, see how it fit with his daily driving around.  He was involved in many clubs, he had around 3 weekly lunches with different groups of retirees, went to the post office most days to check his PO box and then stop at Mickey Ds for his senior citizen discount coffee etc.  And my mom and dads house had a small 1 car garage they kept everything but a car in.
I would have let him take it out for a drive, but I wasn't going to allow anyone to be driving around parking in lots where it might get dinged or scratched, driven in rain, maybe spilling coffee in it, or parking outside under trees for several days, in other words, use it in ways I went out of my way to avoid.  So I said no, and my dad was mad at me.
He ended up deciding a "muscle car" wasn't practical for him and bought another caravan.  And was diagnosed with cancer literally days after buying the van, and passed away soon afterwards. I still think his request to use my car as a daily driver was not reasonable as I don't use it that way, but I feel bad he felt slighted by my not letting him borrow my car.

I have had my car for almost 40 years now. I have 3 daughters who grew up with it always around. Once I got it back on the road and looking good they started to take some interest in it. One morning my youngest, Samantha asked how come she had not driven it yet. I had always said nobody drives it but me. For some reason that morning I changed my mind and said jump in, let's go.  We went north out of Boise up hwy 55 towards Horshoe Bend. A nice winding highway that heads up to the mountains. I took some video of her on her phone. When we got back she immediately posted it on facebbook, which started a good natured ribbing to her sisters as to which was the favored daughter ect.  About a month later my oldest daughter Toni was in town. It was a nice Sat. morning so I said let's head up hwy 55 to Garden Valley to get some pepperoni sticks they have at  a cheveron station there. One of my favorite drives. I also took video of her driving the cuda. When we got to garden valley they were out of pepperoni sticks. I was bummed as we just drove about 45 miles to get some.  So instead I took her to a nice lunch at a great little resturaunt in Crouch Id. Had a wonderful day and took a few pics with her and the car in a great setting. Two weeks later Toni came down with a sudden illness on a Tuesday, and passed away that Friday. A common virus started it, and her immune system went the wrong way and shut all her organs down. So that day was the last thing we did together. A memory I will always cherish. You just never know what life will throw at you. Not to bring this thread down, but I am sure glad I changed my mind and at least let my daughters drive it.  I'm having those pics framed to hang above my modeling desk.  I will also let some close friends drive it this spring to create some fun memories there.  If it get's wrecked or brakes down I'll just fix it.

I'm so sorry for your loss  :angelwings: Me myself only three people have driven my Cuda over the years i've owned it. My nephew is one who has driven it and just got married this year to a very nice sweetheart. i've gotton very close to her and together me, nephew  and her repainted her Jeep Cherokee this summer. Shes became so much like a daughter i've always wanted i for the first time in my life had finally had a will done and i named her to get my Cuda when my time comes. She hasn't driven the car yet but i'm planning for her to take it to shows this up coming year.

When someone wants to drive one of my cars and I don't want them to, I use the "you aren't covered on my insurance policy" story. Works every time. Otherwise, I let people that I trust drive my cars but I am always with them. Nobody drives them harder than I do anyway.

I've only gotten my own ass in the drivers seat for 6 months and yet, my boys have both driven it and I was going to let my BIL also, but we just got sidetracked and it didn't happen. I'd let either Murray or Doug drive it if they were to ask as I know them and they also have similar cars themselves. As long as I was able to be confident that they could handle the car and were respectful of how much time and money I've invested in it, I'd likely let them drive it. Some I'd want to be in the car and some not. Think where we'd all be if none of us had ever gotten their hands on one of these things. Just my  :2cents:

Thanks for the offer Ian but it won't happen. I know what you've put into that car and I wouldn't want to be in the driver's seat if anything happened, even if it wasn't my fault.
I'd much rather watch you drive it in mirror.  :poopoke:

No way.  Nothing good can come from it.  Crap happens ...

Only once in my life did I let someone drive a high performance car I had ... when we lived overseas I had my neighbor take out our s/c vette to keep it in use  - but he also was in the Secret Service and a driver for the VP ... he spent a lot of time at their training track here in No VA ... he could toss that car around  :roflsmiley:

Nope, no one drives it but me. One day they will pry the keys from my dead cold body, but until then... :grinno:
I have 3 sons 16,18 , and 20 I love them to death but they are just not ready for power yet.Too many video games!  I trust them but I still have a hidden fuel pump switch and a master shut off switch in the trunk by the battery.
